POSITION SUMMARY
The role of Lead Commissioner directly supports the company's mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world.
As the Lead Commissioner, you will be responsible for managing on-site commissioning operations, assets, and personnel at wind farm projects throughout Canada and North America. This position plans, coordinates, and oversees daily commissioning activities performed by Nordex personnel and subcontractors while ensuring all wind turbine generators (WTGs) meet quality, safety, and performance standards required to achieve project completion. The Lead Commissioner serves as the primary technical and operational leader on site, providing guidance, troubleshooting support, and project execution oversight throughout the commissioning phase.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily commissioning activities for Nordex Commissioning Technicians and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and ensure commissioning schedules and milestones are achieved.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control system issues.
- Audit commissioning activities and turbine readiness to ensure customers receive a high-quality product.
- Ensure spare parts inventories are maintained, non-conformance reports are completed as required, and inventory cycle counts are accurate.
- Track and maintain inventories of tools, PPE, vehicles, and other project assets.
- Support Site Management, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and other departments as required.
- Prepare commissioning reports, project updates, and progress trackers for internal stakeholders and customers.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.
- Verify all technicians maintain required training, certifications, and qualifications.
- Support post-sales activities including troubleshooting, commissioning support, inspections, and component replacement activities when required.
- Coordinate mobilization and demobilization of personnel, tooling, equipment, and site assets.
- Ensure company vehicles are properly maintained, inspected, and returned in good condition.
- Coordinate tooling calibration, PPE recertification, and asset readiness for upcoming projects.
- Conduct project closeout reviews and communicate lessons learned and continuous improvement opportunities to management.

WHAT YOU HAVE
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent wind industry training and experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of wind industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of wind turbine commissioning experience.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, control system, and fiber optic systems used in wind turbine generators.
- Experience troubleshooting and commissioning Nordex and/or Acciona wind turbine technologies preferred.
- Competency performing switching activities and working with various types of switchgear.
- Proven leadership experience supervising teams in a field-based construction, commissioning, or service environment.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple activities simultaneously, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and prepare reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

- Ability to spend up to 100% of working time at wind farm project sites during active commissioning projects.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Canada and the United States for project assignments, training, and business needs.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Must be able to obtain, maintain, and travel with a valid passport for cross-border travel between Canada and the United States.
- Must be eligible to enter and work in the United States for business and training purposes, subject to applicable immigration and border requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete all Canadian regulatory pre-employment screening requirements.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Ability to climb vertical ladders and work at heights exceeding 100 metres (300 feet).
- Ability to meet a maximum weight requirement of 120 kg (265 lbs), including clothing and personal protective equipment, to safely utilize climbing and rescue equipment.
- Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver's license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver's abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.

- Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment.
- Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members.
The pay for this role is non-exempt at $51.00 - $61.00 CAD hourly with up to a 5% bonus. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
