Job Description: Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking Lead (Remote – Canada)
Position Summary
Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services is seeking an experienced Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking Lead with an active Workday Payroll Certification to join our Workday Digital Capability Team (DCT). This role is responsible for supporting, configuring, enhancing, and optimizing Workday Payroll, Absence, and Time Tracking while ensuring the platform remains stable, secure, compliant, and aligned with business needs.
As the Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will lead configuration, troubleshoot complex issues, support releases and enhancements, and collaborate with HR, Business, Payroll, Finance, IT, vendors, and project teams to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Active Workday Payroll Certification (required)
- 7+ years of Workday experience, including 4+ years supporting Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking configuration
- College diploma or certificate in IT, HRIS, Business Systems, Software Development, or related field
- Experience supporting Canadian payroll in a complex, unionized environment
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead SME for Workday Payroll Canada.
- Configure and maintain payroll business processes, security, reports, earnings, deductions, tax authorities, pay groups, payroll schedules, payroll balances, and retro pay processing.
- Configure and support payroll-related Absence and Time Tracking rules, including leave plans, accruals, overtime, shift premiums, and time calculations.
- Support end-to-end payroll processing, validation, reconciliation, and year-end activities.
- Troubleshoot payroll calculations, gross-to-net discrepancies, retro pay, absence, and time-related payroll issues.
- Support payroll integrations, EIBs, testing, Workday releases, enhancements, and production support.
- Partner with HR, Payroll Operations, Finance, IT, and vendor teams.
Unionized Payroll Experience
Support a highly complex environment with 20+ bargaining-unit payrolls, including:
- Collective bargain agreement configuration and maintenance.
- Overtime and shift premiums.
- Seniority-based rules and entitlements.
- Retroactive settlements and contract implementations.
- Union dues administration.
- Leave, absence, benefits and time tracking impacts on payroll.
- Premium and differential pay calculations.

Ideal Candidate
A hands-on Workday Payroll certified professional with strong Workday Payroll, Absence and Time Tracking configuration expertise, experience supporting large, unionized organizations, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proven ability to deliver operational excellence in a complex Canadian payroll environment.
Work Environment: Remote, Canada
Security Clearance: Enhanced Security Clearance required.
