The Opportunity

As Director of SEO, you will own the vision, performance, and revenue impact of the SEO department, spanning traditional organic search and AI search visibility.

This is a true P&L-owning senior leadership role. You are accountable for:

• Protecting and improving net revenue retention (NRR)
• Growing revenue within the existing SEO client base
• Ensuring our SEO service is best-in-class, scalable, and defensible as search shifts toward AI-driven discovery
• Building, coaching, and holding accountable a team of senior SEO experts
  

You'll manage 4-6 direct reports, work directly with executive stakeholders internally, and serve as a trusted advisor to senior client leaders.

Core Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP, Operations, you will be responsible and accountable for:

Net Revenue Retention & Revenue Growth

• Proactively identify churn risk and lead corrective action
• Own expansion strategy across the SEO client portfolio
• Identify, forecast, and influence revenue growth opportunities within existing accounts
• Ensure SEO directly contributes to client renewals and expansions
  

Department Vision & Service Excellence

• Define and own the long-term vision for SEO and AI Search at Powered by Search
• Translate that vision into clear quarterly priorities, KPIs, and execution plans
• Ensure service design, delivery quality, and outcomes meet our highest standards
• Continuously evolve our SEO offerings (technical SEO, content strategy, authority building, and AI search / LLM visibility) to stay competitive and relevant for B2B SaaS clients
  

Client Leadership & Advisory

• Maintain senior relationships with CMOs, VPs of Marketing, and Revenue leaders
• Act as a strategic advisor, not just a channel expert
• Clearly communicate SEO performance in the context of pipeline, revenue, and business impact, not just rankings and traffic
• Step in when accounts need senior-level leadership or course correction
  

Team Leadership & Talent Development

• Hire, develop, and retain top-tier SEO leaders
• Coach high performers toward greater scope and impact
• Decisively manage underperformance, coaching up or coaching out as needed
• Create clear career paths, expectations, and accountability across the department
• Protect high-value clients through smart capacity planning and resourcing
  

Operational Rigor & Accountability

• Own departmental P&L forecasting, capacity planning, and prioritization
• Establish quality control and performance standards across all accounts, including content and technical deliverables
• Ensure consistent execution while enabling experimentation and innovation, especially in AI search
• Use data to guide decisions, investments, and trade-offs

• SEO NRR is strong, predictable, and improving
• Expansion revenue from existing SEO clients is increasing quarter-over-quarter
• Clients view SEO as a core pipeline driver, not a long-term cost center
• Your team operates autonomously with high accountability
• Underperformance is addressed quickly; excellence is the norm
• The SEO department has a clear POV on organic and AI search, and a market reputation to match

Required Experience

• 7+ years of SEO experience, including 3+ years in B2B SaaS
• 5+ years leading teams, including senior-level managers or leads
• Proven experience leading SEO programs for complex, high-growth websites (large content libraries, multiple products or markets)
• Demonstrated success driving expansion revenue and retention
• Deep expertise in technical SEO, content strategy, and authority / link building; strong working knowledge of AI search visibility (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other LLM-driven discovery)
• Strong understanding of pipeline, attribution, and revenue reporting (GA4, Google Search Console, and CRM data)
• Experience partnering with Sales, RevOps, Content, and Marketing leadership
• Comfort operating in a fully remote, globally distributed environment
