Community Facilitator

Job Responsibility:

As a member of the Multigenerational team at Carya, the Community Facilitator will be an integral part of creating, implementing and co-facilitating psycho-social groups to various age groups, including seniors. Facilitation spans a broad range of skills and includes recruitment, engagement, connection, creativity, holding space and evaluation, being guided by adult learning principles, and providing a human-to-human experience.

This position straddles two unique programs: The Wellness Collective and Elder Friendly Communities . Both programs work closely together and are led by the same supervisor. As this position is connected to both programs, the commonalities between the two programs include:

1) the ability to build and nurture strong connections,

2) the consistent practice of creating and sustaining warm, welcoming, and safe learning environments, and

3) a blend of creative and organizational abilities.

This position will start January 2, 2024.

• Establish trust with individuals and groups through strong relationships, inviting environments, purposeful gatherings, and responsiveness to community needs.
• Exhibit awareness of personal and cultural humility, ethical priorities, and the ability to reflect on and appreciate the impact of these on practice.
• Experience with seniors with a focus on aging, social isolation, wellness, transition to seniorhood, change or life stages, grief, and loss.
• Ability to hold diverse viewpoints and values of individuals who have developed these in another time in society and culture.
• Be sensitive to individuals with cognitive barriers or other age-related health and mental health needs.
• Approach community development work with a growth mindset, emphasizing learning, curiosity, creativity, and cooperation.
• Maintain systemic demographic information, outcome collection and processes related to groups.
• Produce timely and accurate written correspondence and reports as required.
• Stay informed about Carya and external community programs to ensure participants have access to appropriate services and resources.
• Participate effectively in ongoing direct supervision, team meetings, and department meetings.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to social work, family or community development work or a combination of education and experience.
• Effective facilitation, group hosting, coordination, and community organizing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work both as a team member and independently.
• Experience, excitement, and a passion for working in the community and with people from a strength-based, participant-centered perspective.
• Strong organizational abilities and experience balancing multiple demands.
• Superior written and oral communication skills with attention to detail.
• Proven ability to develop engaging, creative curriculum based on adult learning principles.
• Demonstrated flexibility in time, place of work, and engagement strategies.
• Innovative and person-centered approach.
• High ethical standards and integrity.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a diverse range of people with different needs, learning styles, and experiences.
• Certification with the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative's Core Brain Story.
• Completion of the Natural Supports Framework Training is an asset.
• On occasion, evening shifts may be required.

The Community Facilitator will receive a comprehensive total compensation package including:

• Employer-paid premiums for extended health benefits and 50/50 share of dental premiums.
