Expected Time Commitment and Renumeration

12-month term from May 1st, 2025 to April 30th, 2026. If this position is subject to an honorarium, payouts will be in accordance with the Human Resources Honoraria Policy Grid 9.05.02 which can be accessed here:

Roles and Responsibilities:

Marketing and Communications Director:

• Responsible for monitoring channels and posting outreach content on the council’s social media pages. This team member will work closely with graphics and other team members to ensure effective and constructive messaging surrounding DSC events and activities. In this position, you are responsible for ensuring the social media remains active on a regular basis, replying to messages and positively representing the dsc online.

• M onitoring incoming and formulating outgoing communications for all groups in the DSC. Daily activities may include writing emails, summarizing and sharing incoming messages during team meetings, and conducting outreach within and beyond the Queen’s community.

Events Director and Coordinator:

• As one of three events coordinators on the DSC, you will be part of the creative team responsible for planning, organizing, and executing events on and around campus. Events range from social meet-and-greets like Drinks with Profs to DEVS-themed game nights like Trivia night. This position offers a lot of flexibility for you and your co-coordinators to explore different types of events you would like to see hosted for the student body throughout the year.

Year Representatives:

• As year representatives on the DSC, you will be the everyday face of the DSC in and outside of classrooms. Outreach with the student body is an important and ongoing facet of these roles. Activities include conducting in-class QSSETs once per term, selling stickers and other merchandise the DSC is offering, and sharing important DSC announcements with your classmates.

Conference - Coordinator:

• As the coordinator for the annual DEVS DSC conference, you will be responsible for much of the backend, administrative, and managerial tasks associated with the planning of the event. This will include working with communications and social media coordinators to ensure effective outreach and marketing prior to the event, completing relevant forms required to host the event, and working with other conference team members to set deadlines and ensure a smooth execution come the day of the event.

Conference - Speaker Acquisition:

• As the conference team member responsible for speaker acquisition, you will be conducting outreach and planning related to obtaining prospective speakers for the DEVS DSC conference. Speakers can attend the event virtually or in-person, meaning they can come from a variety of regions and backgrounds. All you have to do is find them!

Conference – Logistics:

• As the conference’s logistics planner, you will be responsible for the behind the scenes planning and execution of the event. Prior to the conference you will be responsible for finding sources of food and drink for the event, reserving the spaces needed for the event, and organizing supplies you’ll need to make the day run smoothly. You will also be ensuring that speakers have all they need to make their presentations optimal for attendees.

Academic Coordinator:

• As one of two academic coordinators on the DSC, you will be responsible for organizing and running the DEVS Mentorship program. This is a recurring program that sees first year prospective DEVS students paired with upper year DEVS students in a mentee-mentor fashion. The role of these positions shifts throughout the year, from outreach and planning during the initial months of fall term, to mentee-mentor coordinators during the second half of fall term, and finally social-based event planning and administration during the latter half of the school year.

Finance Director:

• Oversees the club’s budget, funding, and financial planning. They track income and expenses, manage reimbursement requests, ensure proper record-keeping, and prepare financial reports. They may also help secure funding through grants, sponsorships, or fundraising events, ensuring the club’s activities are financially sustainable and compliant with university policies.
