Optometric Assistant

Position: Optometric Assistant

Hours: 3-4 days per week

Start date: July 2026

Experience: 1+ years or completion of an optometric assistant program

We are looking for an optometric assistant who can work efficiently, with attention to detail, while providing a welcoming experience to patients of all ages. The ideal candidate demonstrates critical thinking, confidence in managing a variety of patient interactions, and a genuine passion for providing compassionate care. Our team values a positive work environment and we are therefore seeking an individual with strong communication skills who contributes to a collaborative and supportive team.

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic imaging such as retinal photography and OCT imaging
• Prepare of exam rooms for patients
• Train patients to insert, remove and care for contact lenses
• Answer phone calls, schedule appointments and recall patients for eye health exams
• Manage retail and trial inventory of eye drops and contact lens solution
• Order, receive and dispense contact lenses
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, suppliers and patients

Requirements:

• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Strong critical thinking skills and confidence to manage diverse patient interactions
• Passionate about providing compassionate care to patient of all ages
• Interest in learning and sharing knowledge with team members and patients
• Intermediate computer skills (Windows 11, email, LibreOffice or Microsoft Office)
• 1+ years of experience or completion of an optometric assistant program is preferred
