About Our Opportunity

As a Technical Architect in the Integration & Security team, you will design, support, and optimize the integration platforms that enable enterprise applications to communicate and exchange data securely and reliably. The role provides technical leadership for middleware technologies, APIs, web services, and system integrations, ensuring the availability, performance, and security of critical business applications. Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex integration issues, supporting application deployments and upgrades, performance tuning, security assessments, and providing technical guidance on system architecture and integration solutions. The position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing the digital services that support business operations across the organization.

Your work will support government departments, agencies, boards, and commissions, as well as Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre. You will collaborate with different teams and build trusted relationships with a wide range of clients and partners to integrate solutions, implement governance around accounts and access, and resolve problems through clear communications.

This role requires deep expertise with a focus on understanding interactions between different systems and interdependencies in the delivery of enterprise Integration & Security services. 

Primary Accountabilities

To succeed in this role, you must be objective, professional, thorough, data-driven, and have clarity of thought and purpose. Your technical competence, work ethic, and communications will ensure that the government Integration & Security services are secure, resilient, and user friendly.

In this role, you will:

• Serve as a subject matter expert for the Integration & Security team.
• Design, implement, and support application integrations, APIs, and web services.
• Maintain and optimize middleware platforms and integration services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and data integration issues.
• Perform application configuration, patching, performance tuning, and technical support. 
• Conduct security reviews and implement mitigation measures for integrated solutions. 
• Provide technical consulting and guidance on system architecture and integration design. 
• Support critical enterprise applications and data exchange services.
• Manage incidents, service requests, changes, and problems, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.
• Coach and mentor team members to promote knowledge sharing, consistency, and operational excellence.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience, or graduation from a recognized Information Technology program plus 5 years and 6 months experience, or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.

Requirements

• System Administration - particularly with Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Experience in Application Server Installation, Configuration, Administration - WebLogic, Tomcat, WebSphere, JBoss
• Experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware - Oracle Forms, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle APEX
• Experience with Databases - Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL
• Experience developing composite applications for Oracle SOA Suite using JDeveloper
• Strong knowledge of Web Services and API's - SOAP, REST, JSON & XML
• Strong knowledge of digital certificates and PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
• Strong knowledge of security architecture principles including defense-in-depth, least privilege, segmentation, and zero-trust concepts.
• Knowledge of Java, Python, Bash
• Experience integrating application platforms with network security controls (WAF, reverse proxies, TLS termination)
• Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts including continuous integration and automated build/test/deploy pipelines. Familiarity with common CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI)
• Implementing well-architected frameworks for security, efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Undertaking troubleshooting and investigations to resolve incidents and problems, followed by creating incident documentation and technical support guidance.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills, and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience coaching and mentoring staff on new processes and technologies.

Assets

• Experience with Windows Server operations, including installation, configuration, and administration.
• Experience in a healthcare or public sector environment.
• Experience supporting mission-critical, enterprise environments operating 24/7.

Working Conditions

You will be required to work outside normal business hours (08:00-16:30) to provide service and be on-call to work non-traditional shifts, including weekends, to support a 24/7 critical service and environment.

Pay Grade:PR 17  

Salary Range:  $3,410.48 - $4,005.58 Bi-Weekly
