Revenue & Billing Analyst

The Revenue & Billing Analyst reports to the Director, Finance Operations and is primarily responsible for financial analysis and oversight of cost recovery-based fee models, including revenue forecasting, financial performance analysis, and analysis supporting invoicing and collections of amounts due to the organization. The role performs financial calculations and analysis of revenues to ensure fair and equitable recovery of organizational costs, maintains a strong understanding of all approved fee models, and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders on system upgrades and implementations to support new business initiatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the annual membership dues calculation process, including coordination with departments and stakeholders for input, reviews, financial analysis and forecasting, and quarterly invoicing in a timely manner.


• Lead the yearly calculation and financial analysis of Annual Dues revenue for Dealer Members as per approved fee guidelines, using the Excel model and applicable systems and databases.


• Process invoices in a timely and accurate manner, including Market Equity and Debt regulation fees, Debt IP fees, supplementary billing, enforcement sanctions, continuing education, delayed MFR filing, quarterly Ombudsman for Banking Services & Investments (OBSI) invoices, and other applicable fees, and analyze related revenue trends and variances.


• Process monthly billing calculations for fee models (Market Equity/Debt and Debt IP) in the Adaptive Insights system, import to the ERP (Microsoft Business Central), generate invoices for review and distribution, and analyze and validate resulting financial information and revenue forecasts.


• Work with IT to ensure effective use of ERP systems supporting accurate and efficient revenue-related processes, and evaluate current workflows for automation opportunities, including developing and implementing tools to improve financial analysis and reporting.


• Maintain and align the customer database between the enterprise resource planning system and the corporate performance management system, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all customer master records used in financial analysis, forecasting and reporting.


• Partner with stakeholders on system upgrades and improvements impacting revenue calculations and billing processes, assessing the financial impact of proposed changes and providing recommendations.


• Assist with the preparation of revenue budgets and forecasts as required, including analysis of financial performance, trends and variances to support the annual budget fee memo to the Board of Directors.


• Provide quarterly analysis and reconciliation of fines revenue, disgorgements, and collections, and maintain payment schedules and reports on fines and disgorgements received or outstanding, including analysis of trends, financial risks and projected collections.


• Assist in the month-end close process, including commentary on reported revenue variances and reconciliation of all revenue-related balance sheet accounts, and assess financial performance against budget and forecast.


• Prepare monthly pre-authorized debits (PAD) and CDS lists for direct deposit of payments, and analyse cash-flow and collection requirements arising from these payments.


• Oversee the collections process and management of aged accounts receivable, as well as reporting and remittance of all Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) assessments due from member firms, including analysis of collection trends, financial exposure, and outstanding receivables.


• Ensure an effective, well-documented internal control environment for revenue, billing, and collection processes, addressing confidentiality of data, accuracy, completeness, and validity of financial records, and identifying and assessing financial risks associated with revenue and collection activities.


• Provide back-up support for bank deposits and recording of cash receipts.


• Apply specialized knowledge of the not-for-profit and self-regulatory landscape to analyse financial trends, assess revenue performance and administer the organization's proprietary, cost-recovery-based fee models.


• Build and maintain the organization-specific revenue and billing calculations underlying each fee model using advanced Excel, reconciled against Adaptive Insights and Business Central, and develop financial models and analytical tools to support forecasting and financial decision-making.


• Act as subject-matter expert on the organization's unique fee structures and billing systems, analyzing financial information, identifying discrepances and trends, evaluating the financial impact of fee or system changes, and providing recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Experience with revenue and billing models and collections processes.


• Completion of a college diploma or equivalent experience in accounting or a related field.


• Proficiency and experience with a variety of accounting software, including Business Central and Adaptive Planning.


• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.


• Proven problem-solving and strong analytical skills to improve business processes.


• Ability to adapt quickly to changing job demands and fee models.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Assets (preferred)

• Advanced Excel skills (macros, pivot tables, lookups, merging, graphs) to maintain complex spreadsheets.


• Knowledge of the securities industry.


• Ability to speak French.
