Payroll Administrator
The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council is a governing body of the Nlaka’pamux Nation. Carrying out its mandate for over 40 years, NNTC exists to protect and advance Nlaka’pamux title and rights and is involved with the exercise of jurisdiction, cultural and natural resources, environmental sustainability, emergency management, food sovereignty, economic independence, health, and well-being. NNTC is an Nlaka’pamux entity, not a provincially or federally incorporated or regulated body however, NNTC utilizes a number of associated entities doing work in relation to archaeology, environment, wildlife, construction, and solar power to support its mandate. The Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees in accordance with applicable federal and provincial legislation. This role ensures compliance with the British Columbia Employment Standards Act , Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements, and other statutory obligations, while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
The Payroll Administrator utilizes Workday to administer payroll processes, maintain employee records, and generate reports. The role works closely with Human Resources, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure payroll accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and support organizational objectives.
This role is based in NNTC’s Vancouver office. This is a full-time role and includes paid vacation, an extended benefit plan, and a defined contribution pension plan. Payroll Processing & Administration
Process full-cycle payroll (weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly) using Workday
Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, bonuses, expense payments, and deductions
Validate and reconcile payroll data prior to finalization
Maintain accurate payroll records and audit trails
CRA regulations (CPP, EI, income tax deductions)
Employer Health Tax (EHT) requirements in BC
Prepare and submit statutory remittances (CPP, EI, income tax)
Support internal and external audits
Workday System Administration
Maintain employee payroll data within Workday
Troubleshoot payroll-related system issues and escalate as required
Support system updates, testing, and process improvements
Generate payroll reports and analytics for Finance and HR
Employee Support & Issue Resolution
Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
Provide guidance to managers and employees on payroll policies and procedures
Administer employee benefits deductions, pension contributions, expense payments, and garnishments
Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of benefit plans in Workday in consultation with the Benefits Administrator
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and best practices
Contribute to policy development and documentation
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation (or working towards) is strongly preferred
- 3–5 years of full-cycle payroll experience, preferably in a Canadian environment
- Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll (required)
- Experience processing payroll for multiple employee groups (hourly and salaried)
Strong proficiency in Workday Payroll and HRIS systems
Solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and BC-specific requirements
Advanced knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, data analysis)
Accuracy & Attention to Detail: High level of precision in payroll processing
Time Management: Ability to meet strict payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment
