Shift Nursing-RN/RPN

Position: Registered Practical Nurse

Department: Regional Dementia Care & Specialized Adult Rehabilitation & Transitional Service

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)

Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required

Experience working with older adults demonstrating responsive behaviours including evidence of creative application of Personhood

Knowledge of neurodegenerative disorders, best practices, and relevant pharmacotherapy for this population

Demonstrated application of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation for adults with severe mental health concerns and concurrent disorders

Knowledge of best practices to support individuals with substance use disorders including motivational interviewing and trauma informed care

Knowledge and application of the Recovery Model required

Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Controlled Acts, Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA

Computer application experience required including advanced level of skill in documentation

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Certificate is an asset

Current PIECES certification required

Montessori Methods for Dementia an asset

Skills/Abilities :

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with clients, families, employees, service providers

Ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programming

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with clients, families, employees, service providers

Understanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactions

Must be willing to work shifts in other programs as required

Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

Good attendance and work record required

Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
