As the Cost Accountant in this role in Guelph, your key responsibilities will include:

• Developing, maintaining, and reviewing standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all product lines.
• Conducting detailed variance analysis on a monthly and ad-hoc basis, specifically investigating and reporting on material usage, purchase price, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption variances.
• Collaborating closely with the Production, Engineering, and Procurement teams to gather operational data, understand changes in manufacturing processes, and ensure the accuracy of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production routings.
• Managing all aspects of inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, reserve calculations (e.g., obsolescence/slow-moving inventory), and the accurate costing of Work-in-Progress (WIP) and Finished Goods.
• Supporting the finance team with the month-end and year-end close processes related to Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and inventory balances.
• Preparing and analyzing gross margin reports by product, customer, and production run to advise management on pricing, profitability, and cost-reduction opportunities.
• Performing ongoing review and enhancement of cost accounting systems and processes within the ERP system to improve efficiency and data integrity.
• Ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards as they pertain to inventory valuation and cost accounting principles.

We are looking for the following for this Cost Accountant role located in Guelph:

• Minimum 2 years of accounting experience across all aspects of the function
• A bachelor’s degree in either business administration or accounting.
