Lookout Housing and Health Society is a charitable organization and social safety net that provides housing and a range of support services to adults, with low or no income, who have few, if any, housing or support options. We believe that helping people help themselves is essential in addressing homelessness and all the issues that surround it. Securing appropriate housing is the first and most essential step in achieving independence for individuals. Full Time - Temporary until incumbent return
We provide housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few, if any, housing or support options. Sunday through Thursday
Shift times will be 23:30 - 07:30 Hours
Shifts are 7.5 hours in length
Night premium will be given to staff that work 50% or more of their shift between 00:00-08:00 Hours
The Tenant Support Worker (TSW) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The TSW works with residents to provide assistance, support, education, and skills training. This role requires the ability to maintain a clean-shaven area where a respirator seal contacts the face and to successfully complete annual fit testing for a half-mask respirator, in alignment with WorkSafeBC and organizational safety requirements.
Will participate in tenant intakes, and provide support services and assessments
Ensure that basic needs are met by working closely with individuals on a long-term, ongoing basis
Complete required paperwork and maintain statistical and evaluative data
Assist with volunteers and practicum students on site
use of an automobile may, at times, be useful
Sleeping during shifts is not permitted
Education, Training and Experience
Diploma in Community Social Service
Class 5 BC Drivers’ License (*Only if required)
Food Safe Certificate (*Only if required)
Recent related experience of two (2) year’s OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience OR other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the work.
Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Practice, Addictions Support organizations, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Suitability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment.
