General Superintendent (Abbotsford)

Our client is a well‑established and growing infrastructure services organization specializing in complex field operations, maintenance, and project services within highly safety‑focused and operationally demanding environments. They are adding a General Superintendent to their Abbotsford, BC team. The hire will oversee and manage all phases of railway track construction and maintenance projects, ensuring safety, scheduling, coordination of workers, materials, and equipment, supervision of subcontractors, and compliance with specifications, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight to all construction efforts to ensure projects comply with design, budget, and schedule.
• Ensure adequate resources are in place, including scheduling labour, equipment, and materials to meet schedule, quality, and budget.
• Perform in‑depth review of drawings, designs, and contract documentation to understand details, notes, and requirements.
• Supervise total construction and maintenance effort in the field to ensure work follows design, specifications, budget, and schedule.
• Monitor quality standards of all work, including subcontractor performance.
• Maintain productivity of workers and efficient use of materials and equipment.
• Report production quantities to the office and review labour productivity reports weekly.
• Understand contracts and scope of work; work with Project Management Team on potential change orders.
• Monitor and adhere to established budgets for the job.
• Investigate alternative work methods and materials that improve efficiency or quality.
• Monitor job schedules and coordinate subcontractors’ work and suppliers’ deliveries and equipment needs, taking appropriate action when necessary.
• Ensure all field personnel comply with Company policies, project procedures, safety program, and work rules, taking corrective action as necessary.
• Review and approve timesheets for accuracy, job coding, equipment, material, etc.
• Participate in invoicing, identify and administer extra billing, and address outstanding A/R as required.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Act as a liaison among owners, inspectors, staff, and subcontractors.
• Assist with the preparation of written reports and/or updates for management, client, and project team to ensure a clear understanding of project status.
• Engage with new clients to grow business.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years recent related construction experience, including thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, and processes; prior railway experience highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of basic project controls, material management, contract management, and subcontract management.
• Track record of successfully executing projects on schedule and within budget.
• Valid and clean Driver’s License.
• High School graduation plus post‑secondary training in a related field or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• Strong management skills and ability to motivate employees.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office software.
• Proficient in Excel with the ability to build schedules, lists, and small estimates.
• Effective organizational, communication, and client‑relations skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend drawings and specifications.
• Ability to pass background checks, including pre‑employment drug screening.
• Availability to work nights/weekends as needed.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

Compensation

• $150,000‑180,000 annual base salary
