Under the direction of the Associate Registrar, Financial Assistance, the Financial Assistance Consultant is responsible for administering the Ontario Student Assistance Programs (OSAP) for new and returning Ontario students, College Bursary, bursaries for students with disability and Emergency Assistance Programs, which occurs over three separate intakes per academic year. This involves ensuring that students receive all assistance they are entitled to under the above umbrella of programs and ensuring that they meet all criteria and requirements of policy as stated by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development regarding eligibility for the above programs and to contribute to ensuring student retention and removing barriers for students with a disability so they may pursue a postsecondary education.
Interviews students to determine financial need, disseminate information, gather data, complete necessary forms and data enter information that is relevant to the student's financial requests, and apply regular and review policy applicable to that student's specific situation.
Verifies, monitors and makes required changes to information in students online government OSAP files to ensure program integrity and that student receives all funding to which they are entitled. This involves processing of student written requests for changes to their file, addition of student supplied documentation, as well as using electronic data from the Banner Student Information System internal to the college. May involve using the Ministry computer system to communicate with students.
This may involve contacting outside agencies, the National Student Loan Service Centre, Social Service Agencies, provincial and federal government agencies, internal college departments while acting as mediator or advocate for the student. This process may require completion of written correspondence, phone calls, e-mails, exchange of information, etc.
By careful interviewing and analysis of the student's situation, the incumbent may request emergency loan/bursary assistance cheques or issue immediate loan funding in the form of cash.
Three-year diploma, degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Business Administration Finance, Accounting, Management or in relevant area. Minimum three (3) years of customer service experience in a financial assistance office dealing with student assistance programs, OSAP including experience working with MS Office computer software applications such as Word Excel, Outlook, email, and relational database systems.

Solid customer service, advising, and multi-tasking skills.
