Our company is looking for a Senior Safety Specialist to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of integrated project team and promote company’s safety policy and best practices;
  • Analyze and evaluate design compliance with safety requirements and safety principles;
  • Define technical and functional safety requirements for train control systems, including Safety Integrity Levels (SIL);
  • Perform hazard identification studies (HAZID, HAZOP), hazard analyses (PHA, SHA, HAZID, FTA, FHA) and safety analyses (FFMEA, FMECA, FSA);
  • Prepare System Safety Plan and coordinate safety activities throughout entire system lifecycle;
  • Review the adequacy and completeness of the safety evidence, including test and verification reports, and produce the Safety Case.

Requirements:

  • Detailed knowledge of software lifecycle, system and software requirements definition, software architecture and design;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks and work in an integrated and multi-disciplinary team;
  • Works with Engineering departments and integrated project team as a team player with the view that others are your customers;
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral;
  • Working knowledge of safety methods and techniques: FTA, FMEA/FMECA, HAZOP/HAZID;
  • Manages and schedules daily/weekly activities within budget and time allowances given;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Excellent command of English, both written and oral;
  • Defines the work and supervises performance of junior staff;
  • Experience with software development in embedded systems, strong C/C++, ADA skills;
  • B.Sc. Electrical Engineering; Computer Science or equivalent;
  • Decides how best to perform the work;
  • Member of Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO) or Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE);
  • Experience with safety related standards EN 50126/128/129/159, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882/1629, MoD 00-55/56/58, ARP 4761, IEEE 1474, AREMA;
  • Participates in engineering activities to ensure “built-in safety” properties in Thales systems.
