Job Responsibility:

Driftpile Cree Nation (DCN) is a proud and culturally strong First Nation located between the towns of Slave Lake from the west, and High Prairie from the east, approximately 340 km northwest of Edmonton. The Nation is nestled on the south shore of Lesser Slave Lake. As the second-largest lake entirely within the Alberta boundaries Lesser Slave Lake is a stunning destination for birders and wildlife enthusiasts. As a dynamic and vibrant community, we are dedicated to delivering services that continually improve the community through improvements in social programs and infrastructure projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The DCN Travel Centre (Centre) Business Development Officer (BDO) position is a full-time position, that reports directly to the Chief Administration Officer (CAO). This position will be to provide support to the entirety of all operations at the Travel Centre and Diner450. The BDO will work closely with both operations managers by: supporting management, covering temporary staffing gaps, market research, customer satisfaction levels, and developing new business initiatives. This position consists of 5 days on, 2 days off; schedule will vary from Monday to Sunday, 7.5-hour days, with a max of 37.5 hours per week. However, schedule and location may change from time to time to meet operational requirements. This is a local position to Driftpile, AB., and all candidates must have their own accommodations and transportation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in managing the Centre's growth and direction by managing the stores inventory list and pricing.
  • Supervise and manage Center employees in operations manager(s) absence.
  • Collaborate with Centre operation managers to encourage operational efficiencies and adequate cost controls.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective means of customer satisfaction information gathering.
  • Ensure adequate financial reporting to support business intelligence at the Centre.
  • Liaise with vendors and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Develops new vendors and inventory items for the store to sell.
  • Identifies new market opportunities.
  • To be fully knowledgeable regarding all Centre operations, products, services, and administration requirements.
  • Sends out internal billing statements and ensures collection of receivables from DCN departments and entities.
  • Identify and capitalize on economic opportunities Centre can provide.
  • Collaborates with DCN Human Resources and Centre operation managers to attract, hire, guide, train and retain a functional and efficient Centre employee roster.
  • Support the development of the Centre objectives by analyzing, evaluating, reporting on, making recommendations, and or resolving issues that may arise.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the Centre to all visitors, staff, inquiries, and any other interactions with all parties.
  • Complies with all DCN policies and procedures, including: health and safety, PPE protocols, social media policy and the fitness for duty zero tolerance policy for alcohol and drugs.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • The BDO is a key team member of Driftpile Cree Nation and may be asked to carry out other duties and activities related to the effectiveness and the successful implementation of the Driftpile Cree Nation Travel Centre.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or better in business, finance/administration or accumulated relevant business experience.
  • Excellent communication, stress management, and time-management skills.
  • Supervisory and management experience with a demonstrated ability to lead, and motivate.
  • Knowledge of First Nations.
  • Strong team work and collaboration skills.
  • Retail store knowledge.
  • Knowledge of vendor management best practices.
  • Proficient in the use of computer information systems including MS office, accounting software(s), ERP systems, and database software(s).
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations people, values, and culture.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Fluency in Cree is considered an asset.
  • Criminal and Child Welfare Intervention record checks will be required at time of interview.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and years of experience.
