Salary: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour

Detailed Overview In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse, Pediatrics provides direct patient care in a pediatric emergency unit and/or pediatric emergency observation unit.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive nursing assessment of pediatric patients on admission and at regular intervals, make nursing diagnoses, identify risk factors and plan, perform and evaluate interventions.

Collaborate with patients, families, physicians and the inter‑professional care team to develop, implement and modify care plans and to ensure therapeutic relationships.

Participate in care and discharge planning, coordinate nursing care, assign and delegate tasks to support staff and make referrals according to protocols.

Provide rapid pediatric assessments in collaboration with Emergency Department staff.

Teach patients and families about health promotion and self‑care.

Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions and outcomes following practice standards.

Act as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students.

Participate in quality improvement, risk management, research and special projects.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience Graduation from an approved School of Nursing; current registered RN with the BCCNM; two (2) years recent, related clinical nursing experience in pediatric emergency and completion of post‑graduate coursework or certification applicable to the area.

Clinical proficiency in pediatric emergency nursing.

Ability to complete thorough assessments and apply pediatric nursing theory.

Recognition of acuity changes and use of evidence‑based practice.

Effective verbal, written and electronic communication with patients, families and the inter‑professional team.

Ability to promote person‑centered care and advocate for patients and families.

Skill in initiating and maintaining IV therapy.

Organizational and prioritization skills in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members.

Teaching and instructing patients, families and community partners.

Handling change and operating related equipment, including computer applications.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
