Closing Date (MM/DD/YYYY): 08/09/2026

Are we right for you...

Are you the person everyone turns to when they need help navigating purchase orders, procurement processes, and administrative details?

Do you enjoy bringing order to complexity, managing multiple competing priorities, and ensuring procurement requests move efficiently from initiation to completion?

Perhaps you've worked in procurement, purchasing, accounts payable, contract administration, or a related environment where accuracy, customer service, and attention to detail were critical to success.

If you enjoy being a trusted resource to stakeholders, solving problems, and ensuring things are done correctly the first time, this may be the next step in your career.

Please note that this is a 12-month term opportunity.

In this role you will be asked to...

Be the central point of coordination between BC Transit's Strategic Procurement department and business areas across the organization. Reporting to the Manager, Contracts, you will manage the flow of procurement and contract-related information, helping to ensure purchase order requests, contracts, amendments, and change orders are processed accurately and efficiently.

A major focus of this role is the raising, review, management, and administration of purchase orders. You'll assess requisitions for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate approvals, confirm supporting contracts and documentation exist, and ensure requests comply with procurement policies and requirements.

You'll become a key resource for internal customers, providing guidance and training on purchase order creation, approvals, procurement procedures, and issue resolution. You'll work closely with Accounts Payable, Capital Planning, vendors, business owners, and other stakeholders to resolve inquiries and ensure timely processing of procurement activities.

You will also support procurement and contracts administration activities, including managing contract records, , supporting audits, and ensuring records are retained according to provincial requirements.

Success in this role requires someone who can manage a high volume of requests, prioritize effectively, communicate confidently, and maintain a strong focus on customer service and accuracy.

In this role you will not be asked to...

Work in isolation with little interaction.

This is a highly collaborative role that requires daily communication with internal stakeholders, vendors, procurement professionals, accounts payable staff, and contract managers. Success comes from building relationships, providing guidance, and helping others navigate procurement processes effectively.

You won't simply process transactions. You'll be expected to review information critically, identify issues, provide recommendations, and ensure procurement activities align with policies and procedures.

What you might love about this role...

  • Be the Purchase Order Expert: You'll play a critical role in managing and supporting purchase order activities across the organization, helping ensure requests are accurate, compliant, and processed efficiently.
  • Variety in Your Day: From purchase orders and contracts to records management, audits, vendor inquiries, and procurement requests, no two days are exactly alike.
  • Support the Entire Organization: Your work directly impacts teams across BC Transit by helping them access the goods and services they need to deliver transportation services throughout the province.
  • Develop Procurement Expertise: Gain exposure to procurement processes, competitive bidding, contracts, public sector procurement principles, records management, and supplier interactions.
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: You'll have opportunities to improve processes, support policy development, and help make procurement services more effective and efficient.
  • Customer-Focused Work: If you enjoy helping others and being seen as a trusted resource, you'll have plenty of opportunities to support and guide stakeholders throughout the procurement process.

What might not resonate...

  • High volumes and competing priorities. This role manages a continuous flow of purchase order requests, procurement inquiries, contract administration activities, and stakeholder support requirements.
  • Attention to detail is critical. Accuracy matters when reviewing approvals, contracts, purchase orders, records, and procurement documentation.
  • Frequent stakeholder interaction. Success requires comfort communicating with a wide range of internal and external customers and providing guidance on procurement procedures.

This role might not be for you if...

  • You prefer working independently with minimal interaction or customer support responsibilities.
  • You dislike balancing multiple priorities and responding to a high volume of requests.
  • You prefer strategic planning over detailed administrative and coordination work.
  • You don't enjoy reviewing documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • You are uncomfortable providing guidance and training to others on processes and procedures.

What you'll bring to the table...

Some qualities you possess to be successful in this role:

  • Purchase Order Expertise – experience creating, reviewing, managing, and troubleshooting purchase orders in a complex organizational environment.
  • Procurement Knowledge – understanding of procurement practices, contract administration, competitive bid processes, and procurement policies.
  • Administrative Excellence – strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple requests while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Customer Service Orientation – ability to build positive relationships and provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Ability – demonstrated ability to analyze business, financial, technical, and procedural issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills – strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain procurement processes clearly and effectively.
  • Adaptability and Prioritization – ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and changing priorities.

The successful candidate will typically bring a post-secondary diploma in a related field and three years of related experience with recent progressive purchasing and/or contract administration experience. Knowledge of procurement or contract law, competitive bid processes, and experience creating purchase orders are important assets. Public sector procurement experience is considered an asset.

To learn more about this role, we encourage you to review the Procurement Coordinator job description where you'll see all the accountabilities of the position.

What we'll bring to the table...

  • Comprehensive medical and dental benefits to support you and your family, regardless of what life throws at you
  • Membership in BC’s Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP). Nationally recognized for its strong investment and governance practices, PSPP is a “defined benefit” plan
  • Access to fitness and lifestyle centers to help you take care of your physical fitness and healthVarious programs that support employees such as an Employee Assistance Program and health and wellness initiatives and events aimed at fostering your mental health
  • A complimentary employee bus pass (plus taxable dependent passes)
  • A corporate learning and development program to help you in continuous career growth
  • An employee recognition program where we all recognize each other's successes (not just your Leaders!)
  • A social club that gives you access to events throughout Victoria

What next steps could look like...

  • Interviews will take place the week of August 17th, 2026 .
  • There may be an assignment/presentation as part of the interview process.
  • The position requires the completion of a Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • An eligibility list may be established for future full time regular and full time temporary vacancies
  • If you have a disability that requires an accommodation during any stage of our recruitment process, please contact View email address on ca.workus.org to let us know how we can assist you.
  • BC Transit is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities. If the organization identifies this position as a reasonable accommodation for an existing employee, all candidates will be notified as soon as reasonably possible.

At BC Transit, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace; if you’re excited about this role and you have a combination of education and experience that you feel would fulfill its requirements, we encourage you to apply. In keeping with this belief, we do not discriminate on any basis. Should you require any accommodation or have questions, please let us know.
