This is a full-time permanent position working 75 hours bi-weekly.

The Forest Management Branch is responsible for the management of Yukon's forest resources and is committed to responsible and sustainable development. The branch is embarking on a continuous improvement process to effectively align its resources with the needs of its clients. A strong emphasis on integrity and professional conduct will contribute to building and maintaining relationships with various agencies within the Government of Yukon and other levels of government.
As a development forester you would be responsible for providing support for all aspects of forest management in the Yukon including implementation of higher-level forest resources management plans, development of timber harvest plans and roads, licensing and permitting, engaging with first nations, industry, stakeholders and the public.

Essential Qualifications

- Degree in Forest Management or a related field
- Experience developing or applying forest harvesting policies, standards, ground rules or guidelines
- Experience in applying or administering resource legislation, preferably related to forest management
- Experience working with various levels of government, First Nations, stakeholder groups, contractors, the public and forest licensees (examples include negotiating and resolving issues)
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the qualifications listed above may be considered.
Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability
We are looking for an individual with operational and client service experience to work within a team of foresters and forest technicians. Development Foresters work under the direction of a Forester to support all aspects of forest management including planning, tenures and engaging with First Nations, industry, stakeholders, and the public. The individual must be able to draw on their own forestry education and experience to problem-solve difficult and complex situations. This individual must have strong written and oral communication skills, display competencies in self-management and be able to work effectively in a team atmosphere and independently. Initiative and social awareness are also key to successfully carrying out Forest Management Branch’s mandate.
