Stellar Creative Lab is currently expanding our Asset Department to bring a premium streaming series for Marvel Animation to life. This is a rare opportunity to work on world-class IP that demands “outside-the-box” creative thinking and high-level technical execution.

Stellar Creative Lab is looking for Modeling Artists who can translate 2D brilliance into optimized 3D reality. Whether you are sculpting iconic characters, designing sprawling cinematic sets, or engineering complex vehicles, your work will set the foundation for the entire visual pipeline.

Detailed Responsibilities as Modeling Artist

1. Asset Creation & Optimization

Your primary focus is the transformation of production designs into high-quality digital assets. This involves:

• Versatility: Modeling a wide array of assets, including hero characters, environments, props, and vehicles.

• Balance: Critically analyzing pre-viz and production art to create assets that look stunning but remain highly optimized for the technical requirements of a high-end animation pipeline.

• Standard Setting: Bringing a proactive passion to elevate the show’s modeling standards to the highest possible creative and technical levels.

2. Technical Problem Solving & Pipeline Integration

Modeling is the “bridge” between concept and movement. You will:

• Maya Mastery: Utilize deep, hands-on knowledge of Maya to ensure topology is clean, efficient, and ready for rigging.

• Downstream Collaboration: Work closely with the Rigging and Surfacing departments. You are expected to proactively troubleshoot potential issues (such as deformation problems or UV mapping complexities) before they become production bottlenecks.

• Workflow Efficiency: Implement best practices to ensure your files are organized and easily navigable by other artists in the pipeline.

3. Collaboration & Mentorship

At Stellar Creative Lab , your “soft skills” are as important as your sculpting skills:

• Accountability: Act as a self-motivated professional who hits deadlines without the need for constant micromanagement.

• Communication: Participate actively in team screenings and departmental meetings, offering constructive feedback and receiving critiques with a growth mindset.

• Mentorship (Senior Level): Senior artists are expected to lead by example, guiding Junior artists through technical hurdles and helping maintain the artistic vision of the Leads and Supervisors.

Candidate Requirements as Modeling Artist

The Must-Haves

• Experience Tiers: * Junior: 1–2+ years in a production environment with a strong portfolio.

  • Mid: 3–5+ years; able to tackle complex hero assets with minimal supervision.

  • Senior: 5+ years; expert-level optimization skills and a history of mentoring others.

• Artistic Vision: A sophisticated eye for form, silhouette, and proportion. You should understand how to translate a 2D drawing into 3D space while maintaining the “soul” of the original design.

• Software Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Maya , ZBrush , and Adobe Photoshop .

• Residency: You must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to British Columbia and hold valid Canadian work authorization.

The Nice-to-Haves

• Texturing/Surfacing Knowledge: Experience with Substance Painter or Substance Designer .

• Alternative Tools: Familiarity with Blender or rendering in Redshift .

• OS: Comfort working within a Linux operating system.
