Duties:

Reports to the Manager, Public Service. Responsible for facilitating access to items in the Windsor Municipal Archive to members of the public. This person receives, describes, organizes, and maintains the Archival collection. This person uses both Archival resources and other library collections, responds to research and reference inquiries.

• Provide Advisory and Reference Services for physical and digital materials in person, and via phone/email;
• Plan, access, and deliver instruction to patrons in the use of documents, materials, and resources e.g. guides, finding aids, forms, and documents;
• Develop and maintain the collection of the Municipal Archives including selecting, transferring, and appraising materials;
• Records management, including; arranging, describing, and deaccessioning records;
• Plan and coordinate the conservation of, and access to, archival materials, including digitization. Conserve archival material including restoring, repairing, and conducting preventative treatments;
• Train, direct, schedule, supervise, and participate in the evaluation of pages, student interns, and special project staff;
• Develop contacts with regional, provincial and national organizations and agencies;
• Participate in establishing and developing relationships with the community including outreach;
• Promote the services and activities of the Municipal Archives and Local History;
• Plan, coordinate and execute library programmes;
• Occasionally investigate, review, and prepare applications for grants;
• Assume responsibility for emergency situations in the absence of a manager when necessary;
• Perform circulation functions as required;
• Secure the Municipal Archives; may secure other library buildings, including locking and unlocking;
• May perform fee-based research and billing;
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited school with a minimum of two archival courses;
• Demonstrate excellent public service and customer relations skills;
• Demonstrate interpersonal, problem resolution, communication, motivational and organizational skills;
• Respond willingly to flexibility in assignment and changing tasks in a team environment;
• Computer literacy in Word, spreadsheets, presentations and Library Information Systems use;
• Respond willingly to flexibility in assignment and changing tasks in a team environment
• Class ‘G’ driver’s licence and/or access to transportation;
• Over 1 year in related work experience;
• Knowledge of Privacy and Copyright law considered an asset.
• Must be able to work on weekends.
