Chief Provincial Veterinarian in Edmonton

Drive animal health initiatives as the Deputy Chief Provincial Veterinarian with Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Edmonton. Oversee programs, policy development, and engage with stakeholders every week. This full-time, permanent position requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and five years in livestock or public veterinary practice. You will lead the development of animal health policies, ensuring sustainability and compliance while collaborating on emergency response planning. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement are critical for success. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop provincial and national animal health programs
- Oversee industry sustainability and public health initiatives
- Engage with stakeholders on Alberta’s livestock health status
- Lead emergency response efforts and policy development
- Represent the Ministry at committees and forums
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with 5 years of experience
- Licensure eligibility with Alberta Veterinary Medical Association
- Advanced education considered in lieu of experience
- Expertise in animal health and disease control strategies
- Knowledge of Alberta’s Animal Health Act regulations
