Role Description

As a Contaminated Sites Lead, you will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of contaminated site investigations and remediation projects across Atlantic Canada. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, provide technical oversight, and ensure regulatory compliance while delivering innovative and effective environmental solutions. Your leadership will help shape GEMTEC’s continued success in managing complex contaminated sites and supporting sustainable development.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead the planning and execution of contaminated sites investigations and remediation projects.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior environmental engineers, geoscientists, and technologists.
• Design and implement field programs, review sampling plans, and interpret environmental data.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staff resources to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Review and approve technical deliverables, including phased Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remedial options analyses, remediation reports, and other regulatory documents.
• Interpret federal and provincial environmental regulations and guide clients toward compliant solutions.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and clients to support successful project outcomes.
• Support business development through proposal preparation, responses to RFPs, and client relationship management.
• Collaborate with GEMTEC’s multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions.
• Maintain a safe and compliant working environment in all project activities.

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned environmental professional with a strong technical foundation in contaminated sites work and a proven ability to lead complex projects. You bring a collaborative mindset, a commitment to quality and safety, and a desire to mentor junior staff while contributing to the growth of GEMTEC’s environmental service line. Your experience navigating regulatory frameworks and working with diverse stakeholders will be key to your success in this role.

Your qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or geoscience from an accredited institution.
• Registered Professional (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) in Canada with experience in contaminated sites work.
• Demonstrated technical competency in site characterization, data interpretation, and environmental regulatory compliance, with a thorough understanding of provincial and federal regulations related to contaminated site management.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and coach junior professionals.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly in English.
• Experience with federal government clients is an asset.
• Technical experience in hydrogeology and/or environmental risk assessment is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
• Experience with business development and preparing technical and cost proposals.
• A collaborative attitude and desire to help grow GEMTEC’s environmental service line.
