Logistics Manager
Location: Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
Reports To: Trading Manager
Company: Agrocorp Processing Ltd.
About Agrocorp Processing Ltd.
Agrocorp Processing Ltd. operates within the agricultural commodity and food-processing sector, connecting Canadian operations with customers, service providers, and international teams.
As our Canadian operations continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced, hands-on Logistics Manager to lead our Canadian logistics function from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
This role is suited to a logistics professional who combines strong leadership with practical execution skills and understands the importance of timely delivery, cost control, regulatory compliance, accurate documentation, and effective coordination across multiple stakeholders.
Position Summary
The Logistics Manager leads Agrocorp’s Canadian logistics function and is accountable for the safe, timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of inbound and outbound products. The role oversees truck, railcar, container, transload, and bulk-vessel execution; shipment documentation; freight procurement; demurrage control; product-readiness coordination; logistics reporting; and the performance of Canadian and overseas support teams.
Success in this role means building and maintaining a logistics function where shipments are effectively planned and executed, risks are identified and addressed early, customer and contractual commitments are protected, logistics costs are actively managed, documentation is accurate, and team members operate with clear accountability.
The Logistics Manager will also play an important role in strengthening systems, processes, and operational controls that support the continued growth of Agrocorp’s Canadian operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and manage the Canadian logistics function, including logistics employees in Canada and designated overseas/back-office support personnel.
Establish clear responsibilities, workflows, priorities, service standards, and accountability across the logistics team.
Assign and monitor work, coach employees, support cross-training, and address training, staffing, performance, or resource gaps.
Build an effective logistics team and recommend staffing or structural changes required to support business needs.
Provide hands-on operational support during workload or staffing gaps, including direct management of critical shipments when required.
Make timely operational decisions within delegated authority and appropriately escalate matters requiring senior-management approval.
Logistics Planning & Shipment Execution
Oversee the planning and execution of inbound and outbound shipments by truck, railcar, container, transload, and bulk vessel.
Develop and maintain integrated shipment schedules that align product availability, plant capacity, railcar supply, transload activity, ocean bookings, and contractual delivery periods.
Coordinate product movement from farms and suppliers to Agrocorp plants and from plants to ports, transload facilities, customers, and final destinations.
Monitor shipments from product readiness and loading through transportation, transloading, ocean movement, and final delivery.
Provide timely and accurate shipment-status updates to affected stakeholders.
Identify delays, capacity constraints, and execution risks early and implement practical contingency plans before they result in claims, deductions, defaults, or lost business.
Rail, Bulk & Demurrage Management
Plan railcar requirements and maintain regular communication with CN, CPKC, BNSF, and other applicable rail providers.
Monitor railcar supply, placement, release, movement, and service issues.
Ensure loaded railcars are released promptly and traced through to transload facilities, ports, or final destinations.
Escalate railcar shortages, service failures, and delays through appropriate railway representatives.
Minimize demurrage, detention, storage, and related charges through effective planning and coordination.
Review and dispute demurrage charges and negotiate reductions or waivers where justified.
Coordinate bulk-vessel and FOB shipment requirements, including scheduling, product readiness, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
Freight Procurement & Cost Control
Obtain and negotiate competitive trucking, rail, container, transload, and ocean-freight rates in coordination with relevant internal teams.
Identify and evaluate alternative carriers and logistics service providers to improve cost, reliability, and operational flexibility.
Maintain productive relationships with transportation providers while reducing unnecessary dependence on a single provider.
Provide freight and trucking cost information to Trading and Procurement for purchase and sales costing.
Monitor actual logistics costs against quotations, approved assumptions, and budgets.
Identify opportunities to reduce freight, handling, storage, demurrage, detention, and other logistics-related costs.
Track logistics-related losses, customer deductions, claims, and additional costs arising from shipment delays, documentation errors, or execution failures.
Documentation, Compliance & Product Readiness
Ensure shipment documentation is complete, accurate, properly maintained, and issued within required timelines.
Oversee certificates of origin, phytosanitary certificates, weight certificates, bills of lading, stuffing instructions, and other shipping or regulatory documents.
Coordinate documentation requirements with customers, freight forwarders, transloaders, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
Support compliance with CFIA, USDA, customs, customer, contractual, and destination-country requirements.
Resolve documentation or certification issues that could delay or prevent shipment.
Work closely with Procurement, Quality, and Plant Operations to confirm that products are available, properly prepared, and compliant with contractual specifications before shipment.
Support investigation and corrective action where quality or regulatory issues affect shipment execution.
Stakeholder & Financial Coordination
Develop and maintain effective relationships with railway companies, ocean carriers, trucking companies, freight forwarders, transloaders, port operators, customers, and other logistics partners.
Coordinate closely with Trading, Procurement, Plant Operations, Quality, Finance, and Accounting teams.
Work with designated overseas teams when transactions or financing arrangements require cross-office coordination.
Coordinate with Finance, Accounting, and back-office personnel regarding shipment invoicing, freight charges, claims, and supporting documentation.
Identify and escalate overdue customer payments or unresolved payment issues associated with completed shipments.
Ensure urgent operational issues are communicated and acknowledged promptly through the appropriate channels.
Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Assess logistics operations, staffing, systems, and controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for logistics planning, execution, documentation, reporting, escalation, and business continuity.
Maintain accurate shipment, cost, inventory, and documentation information in approved company systems.
Develop practical tools that improve visibility of plant inventory, product readiness, shipment status, logistics costs, and operational risks.
Establish and monitor logistics performance indicators, including on-time shipment performance, freight costs, demurrage, documentation accuracy, claims, deductions, and logistics-related losses.
Analyze recurring problems and implement corrective actions that improve service, accountability, cost-effectiveness, and profitability.
