Project Manager – Water & Wastewater

We are seeking a passionate Project Manager to help us execute complex projects across Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will play a key role in the growth and success of our business unit and manage projects in the field.

Location & Travel

The role is primarily field based across Canada, with potential travel to the United States. Mobility to project sites across Canada and the US is required.

Responsibilities

• Support the proposal/estimating team to provide a quality submission that is both competitive and achievable.


• Lead transition from estimating to project execution.


• Attract, build and mentor project teams.


• Promote a work environment that employees want to be a part of.


• Develop project goals to meet or exceed the owner’s deliverables and align with Aecon’s corporate initiatives.


• Actively promote and prioritize safety above all else.


• Adhere to the critical path, ensuring effective project controls to track, monitor, and adjust the schedule to meet all critical milestones.


• Demonstrate commercial acumen to control costs and improve margins.


• Enforce timely change management practices.


• Oversee quality, testing, start-up and commissioning.


• Accurately forecast and report performance (safety, schedule, cost, and quality).


• Identify, mitigate, and manage project risks.


• Oversee procurement of subcontractors, major equipment, and line materials.


• Effectively negotiate and execute contracts in a timely and cost-effective manner.


• Manage and foster all stakeholder relations (Owner, Regulators, Subcontractors, Suppliers, etc.).


• Chair project management meetings with a focus on the best outcomes for Aecon.

Qualifications

• 10 years of construction experience.


• Experience executing Water or Heavy Industrial projects is required.


• A vast network of contacts (tradespeople, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers).


• Background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Works.


• Background in General Contracting.


• Post‑secondary education in engineering, construction management, and/or trades is an advantage.


• Management experience with alternative project delivery (design‑build, construction management at risk, P3, IPD).


• Willingness and ability to travel for work (required).


• Experience with BIM – a benefit.


• Experience executing Lean Construction Principles – a benefit.
