JOB SUMMARY: The Gedeo Crisis Clinician reports to and works under the direct supervision of the Crisis Hub Manager.

Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinicians are an integrated team of individuals who work closely together to provide meaningful crisis response, crisis intervention, connections to community services and support to individuals affected by crises within the community of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

The Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinician will provide individuals who live and work within the community of Six Nations with timely and appropriate crisis intervention, support and connection to resources. This will include an assessment of the person of any age in crisis to stabilize and manage the current crisis situation and ensure appropriate community support connections.

The Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinician is responsible for supporting community members by providing telephone, walk in and mobile crisis response. At the discretion of Six Nations Police on duty officers, and the Crisis Hub Manager, Gędęǫ’ Clinicians

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma with studies in the area of Mental Health and Addictions, Crisis Response, Health Care or other related field


• Experience working in Crisis Response


• Extensive knowledge of the unique social dynamics of the Six Nations of the Grand River


• Possess a valid driver's license


• Preference will be given to a Six Nations Band Member.


• A good understanding of the Ontario Mental Health Act


• Knowledge of risk assessments, suicide prevention, principles of crisis theory and intervention, theory and practice of mental health and addictions treatment


• Must have a current cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and first-aid certificate or willingness to obtain

POSITION TITLE: Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinician

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to and works under the direct supervision of the Crisis Hub Manager.

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinicians are an integrated team of individuals who work closely together to provide meaningful crisis response, crisis intervention, connections to community services and support to individuals affected by crises within the community of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

The Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinician will provide individuals who live and work within the community of Six Nations with timely and appropriate crisis intervention, support and connection to resources. This will include an assessment of the person of any age in crisis to stabilize and manage the current crisis situation and ensure appropriate community support connections.

The Gędęǫ’ Crisis Clinician is responsible for supporting community members by providing telephone, walk in and mobile crisis response. At the discretion of Six Nations Police on duty officers, and the Crisis Hub Manager, Gędęǫ’ Clinicians may provide support by attending a crisis situation with Six Nations Police.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Functions:

• Provide strong assessment skills in the delivery of crisis response support/interventions, assessments and planning


• Provide intensive short term support, crisis intervention and service coordination which may include attending hospital.


• Seek to balance the application of professional and clinical practices with traditional Hodi:noshoni: culture and values.


• Address the needs of high risk individuals with complex issues by providing coordinated and multi-disciplinary supports and interventions.


• Maintains confidentiality


• Understanding of the basic use of psychotropic medications, psychiatric diagnosis and formulation of the mental health assessment


• Provide mobile, on-site, crisis response to individuals/families in the Six Nations community.


• Will respond on-site to support individuals/families that are in crisis based on safety assessment, information provided by caller, and manager input when needed.


• Assist the Six Nations Police when requested to provide de-escalation, stabilization, and safety planning for those in crisis.


• Provide and complete appropriate service referrals for individuals/families who have interactions with the Gedeo Clinicians.


• Show compassion, empathy, and responsiveness while understanding the impact each different crisis situation has on individuals/families/agencies of the Six Nations community.


• Continually provide education, awareness, and updates to the Six Nations community and to Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council departments on the services available and provided by the Gędęǫ’ Clinicians.

Communications Functions:

• Employs excellent communication skills re: collaboration to implementation of crisis response plans; interacting and supporting person in crisis; interacting with multi-sector team members.


• Minimizes employee risk by responding in teams of 2.


• Ensure that Crisis responders are as safe as possible under the circumstances using situational assessments and the level of risk associated with each crisis call the team is responding to.


• Forming positive relationships and strong partnerships with police, EMS, hospitals, law enforcement agencies, healthcare and social services


• Make referrals on behalf of clients/community members to a wide variety of community programs and services, both in Six Nations community and to surrounding cities/municipalities.


• Follows the appropriate protocols necessary with internal and external supports in order to effectively manage a crisis response.


• Attends staff and program meetings as required.


• Supports the Director of Wellbeing, and others as directed with communication and information tasks when required.


• Work closely and collaboratively with all the Mental Wellness Teams.


• Provide check-ins and follow up with clients/community members who are in crisis.

Administrative Functions :

• Manages individual, organizational and community crises in a wholistic and culturally appropriate manner.


• Maintains documentation according to organizations policies and professional standards and guidelines.


• Document and chart all client interactions in the organizations EMR (electronic medical record) system.


• Collection of stats and data specific to crisis response and client interactions.


• Employs effective decision-making skills to prioritize crisis response needs and understands the dynamics of individuals in crisis.


• Maintains appropriate statistical database as required and directed by the Crisis Hub Manager


• Completes documentation in relation to Mobile Crisis /Crisis Response


• Responsible for communication with the Crisis Hub Manager to aid in the completion of required reporting.


• Strong knowledge base using excel, PowerPoint, and other related software programs.


• During downtime, staff will participate in professional development specific to crisis response and the Six Nations community, practice scenario based crisis situations for maintaining skill, support community outreach, and develop local resource information in preparation for community member drop-ins.


• Other Administrative functions as required e.g. answering the telephone, answering messages, copying and filing etc.

Other Functions :

• Performs related duties respective of educational qualifications and skill as may be required by the Crisis Hub Manager, Senior Manager or Director of Wellbeing.


• Provides support for the Six Nations Emergency Measures Plan by ensuring awareness of the Emergency Measures Plan and assistance as instructed by the Director of Well Being.


• It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management.

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires physical activity and mental stress; requires working inside/outside; requires travel; requires extensive interactions with the public, who at times may be hostile or irate; subject to interruptions, deadlines, unscheduled hours.

Work requires the ability to prioritize tasks, work independently or in a team environment, and ability to cope with many demands and time constraints.

Ability to work on a rotating schedule to ensure appropriate crisis coverage.

May need to respond to crisis after hours and on weekends. This may include responding to crisis in other communities.

Crisis Hub Manager

Receives direction and guidance and discusses plans, prioritizes to ensure tasks are done efficiently and effectively, receives instruction and supervision.

Other Staff

External Agencies

Views and interacts with all external agency staff as part of the response to mental wellness management. Maintains awareness of legislative policy and program changes; seeks to develop close working relationships.

Represents and promotes the interests of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory community members; works in a courteous, co-operative, positive proactive manner, provides information and advice.
