LPN (Maternity leave coverage)

Job Responsibility:

Reporting to the RN/DOC/ Designate implements and evaluates nursing care to an assigned group of residents to promote quality of life in accordance with the established policies and procedures of Finnish Home, competency guidelines and standards of practice as outlined by the College Of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia and current legislated scope of practice.

• Provides direct resident care using the nursing process, which includes assessments, interventions and administration of medications.

• Administers medications (oral, topical, S/C, and IM) to assigned residents; charts the administration of the medications and monitors the resident reactions to the medication and takes corrective action as required.

• Performs nursing procedures such as applying and changing sterile and/or non sterile dressings, colostomy care and irrigation, catheterization, taking/recording blood pressure, pulse, and/or respirations, temperature, administering suppositories and enemas.

• Completes MDS assessments for assigned residents

• Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by taking part in the development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of resident care plans and profiles including regular review and up dating according to facility policies and procedures.

• Participates in preparation of team conferences by completing appropriate forms, assessments and follows up with the doctor as necessary

• *Assists residents with or fully providing care as needed to meet activities of daily living such as; nutritional needs, personal hygiene, care of skin, hair and nails, bathing and toileting, dressing and overseeing prescribed exercise routines.

• *Transfers, ambulates, and porters residents utilizing mechanical aides such as lifts, wheel chairs, and walkers as outlined in the residents care plan and as per facility policy.

• Documents and updates information regarding the resident's condition, care, nursing procedures and provides emergency response care.

• Feeds assists or prompts the resident to eat and take adequate fluids as indicated by the residents individualized care plans/ worksheets and as directed by the dietitian.

• Completes incident reports for accidents and unusual incidents as per facility policies and procedures.

• Assists in maintaining the medical supplies by monitoring the supplies and completing the necessary forms to order supplies to replenish the stock

• Performs clerical functions that support resident care such as filing relevant documents in resident charts, documents doctor's orders and/ or answering the phone and responding to issues or referring the caller to the DOC.

• Participates in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment by understanding and following health and safety rules regulations and practices including fire disaster WHIMS and infection control.

• Assists with the orientation of new LPN staff as directed to work routines, medication procedures, and LPN nursing duties in accordance to facility policies and procedures.

• Performs other related duties.
