Role Summary

As Communications Distribution Designer (Enterprise Architect) you provide advice and guidance on cabling and network infrastructure design, cable management, security, and connectivity for new and renovated buildings, including heritage sites. You research, evaluate and recommend enterprise‑wide solutions, collaborate with stakeholders during planning and execution, and ensure projects comply with House of Commons policies and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Advise on best practices for cabling and network infrastructure design, including cable management, security, voice, data, optical and wireless networks.
• Research and evaluate emerging concepts, approaches and technologies for enterprise‑wide recommendation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders during envisioning, planning, and execution of projects to develop goals, constraints, and requirements from the communications distribution perspective.
• Contribute to proposals, RFIs, RFPs and SOWs with professional advice and technical expertise.
• Provide guidance to senior and executive level stakeholders, vendors, and external partners.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure cabling design for new buildings or renovations.
• Experience gathering business requirements, reviewing data, and developing conceptual designs.
• Professional certification as Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) preferred.
• Knowledge of architecture compliance review, IT strategic roadmap, capacity management, disaster recovery, system architecture, quality assurance, business and system requirements analysis, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of IT procurement, risk assessment, lifecycle management, and IM/IT Policy and Blueprints implementation.
• Knowledge of BICI Communications Distribution Designer theories, principles, practices, and methodologies.
