Associate Lawyer Contract Langley

Role Description

We are hiring a full‑time, on‑site Associate Lawyer based in Langley, BC.

The Associate Lawyer will manage a caseload under the supervision of senior counsel, including client intake, legal research, drafting pleadings and agreements, and preparing correspondence. Daily responsibilities include attending client meetings, court appearances, mediations, and negotiations, as well as reviewing and drafting contracts, affidavits, and other legal documents. The role involves collaborating with other lawyers and staff, maintaining accurate file records, and meeting court and transactional deadlines.

The Associate Lawyer will also support business development efforts, contribute to firm initiatives, and uphold skilled and ethical standards.

Qualifications

Licensed (or eligible for licensing) as a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia. 1–3+ years of post‑call experience in one or more of the following: family law, real estate, civil litigation, business law, estate planning, or immigration (articling experience may be considered).

Robust legal research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to apply legislation and case law effectively.

Proficiency in drafting clear, precise legal documents, including pleadings, agreements, contracts, opinions, and correspondence.

Effective advocacy skills, including preparation for and attendance at court, mediations, negotiations, and client meetings.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a client‑focused and empathetic approach. High level of organization and time management, with the ability to prioritize multiple matters and meet strict deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently with appropriate judgment.

Comfort with legal practice management software, document management systems, and standard office technology. Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, inclusivity, and adherence to all ethical and regulatory requirements.

Experience with mediation or alternative dispute resolution is an asset, particularly in family law matters.
