OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - Major Capital Projects Officer

Reporting to the Major Capital Projects Manager, the Capital Projects Officer supports and leads the coordinated delivery of assigned capital and infrastructure projects for Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN). This mid‑level professional role bridges project coordination and senior project leadership, providing hands‑on responsibility for planning, procurement support, consultant coordination, construction oversight, and project close‑out.

The position operates with moderate professional independence, managing defined project components or smaller‐to‐medium capital projects while escalating strategic, financial, or high‑risk matters to senior leadership. This role is intended to strengthen internal capacity during a defined capital delivery period and is well‑suited to a 2‑year term aligned with active capital priorities .

Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume) : An equivalent combination of post-secondary education, combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified below, will equally be considered.

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in project management, construction management, engineering technology, business administration, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of progressive experience in capital project coordination, construction projects, infrastructure delivery, or related public‑sector work.
• Experience supporting procurement processes and working with consultants and contractors.
• Experience working within or alongside First Nation governments or public‑sector environments is a strong asset.

Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):

• Strong knowledge of project coordination, capital project delivery, and construction/infrastructure project lifecycles.
• Experience with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and maintaining accurate project documentation.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, contract administration, and coordinating consultants and contractors.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder relationship management skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
• Understanding of regulatory, permitting, land management, and compliance requirements, including tracking approvals and project risks.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a culturally respectful manner, manage multiple priorities, and support First Nation government or public sector initiatives.

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
