Senior Mining Engineer - Mine Planning

We are seeking a technically strong Senior Mining Engineer capable of developing mine designs, Life-of-Mine plans, production schedules, haulage strategies, and planning assumptions used for technical studies and operational decision-making. The successful candidate will combine practical operational experience with strong analytical and mine planning capabilities to deliver technically robust, executable, and economically optimized mine plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Life-of-Mine Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain Life-of-Mine (LOM) plans, including pit optimizations, mine designs, phase designs, pushback strategies, mine development sequences, and long-range production schedules.
- Develop and maintain mine planning assumptions related to haulage performance, equipment productivity, fleet sizing, utilization, operating costs, and material movement.
- Analyze haulage networks, haul profiles, cycle times, fleet requirements, and mining rates to support planning studies and operational readiness.
- Establish stockpiling, blending, cut-off grade, and material management strategies that support project economics and operational objectives.
- Evaluate alternative mine designs, sequencing strategies, haulage systems, fleet configurations, and operating approaches to optimize project value.
Production Support
- Support operational readiness by aligning long-term plans with short- and medium-term production planning requirements.
- Provide technical planning support for production tracking, plan reconciliation, variance analysis, rolling forecasts, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Work with operations teams to help resolve planning constraints and support practical, safe, and executable mine plans.
- Conduct mining method and phase sequencing trade-off studies
- Perform cut-off grade optimisation and stripping ratio sensitivity analysis
- Support slope angle sensitivity and economic optimisation
- Evaluate expansion and throughput flexibility scenarios
Project Study & Technical Support
- Develop and defend mine planning deliverables for Scoping, PEA, PFS, FS, Mineral Reserve estimates, and other technical evaluations.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for management, partner, and investment reviews.
- Support due diligence reviews, peer reviews, and operational readiness activities.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in open pit mining,
- Minimum 5 years of hard rock open pit operational experience, ideally in large-scale operations.
- Strong experience in mine design, pit optimization, LOM planning, scheduling, and phase sequencing.
- Experience converting study plans into executable mine plans and production forecasts.
- Strong understanding of haulage, productivity, fleet requirements, and material movement.
- Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Whittle, NPV Scheduler, or equivalent software.
- Experience with multi-phase or staged mine developments.
- Experience working in remote, high-altitude mining environments.
- Familiarity with autonomous haulage systems, fleet management systems, and mine operational technologies.
