Work Location: Based in Colchester & Cumberland counties (Hybrid work environment; on-site at housing communities)

Application Deadline: Tuesday, September 29, 2026

United Way Maritimes - with teams located in and serving the regions of Central New Brunswick, Colchester & Cumberland Counties, Halifax, Lunenburg County, Pictou County, Prince Edward Island, and Saint John, Kings & Charlotte - is a for-impact organization that brings donors, volunteers, and partners together to create lasting social change. We believe everyone matters and deserves to belong, be safe, and live a life of their choosing. To help, United Way Maritimes alleviates and reduces local poverty by funding, partnering, convening, and advocating for solutions. United Way Maritimes is part of a federated movement of 50+ United Ways across the country.

The staff at United Way Maritimes takes pride in bringing together people who have a range of experience, talents, and backgrounds. We share a passion for each of the places we call home and bring many different skills and strengths to the work we do. Our community and social change priorities include poverty, social isolation, affordable housing, people experiencing marginalization and vulnerability, and recovery and resilience to environmental, mass casualty and public health emergencies. We provide a supportive and flexible work environment filled with opportunity, balance, and laughter.

The Housing Team is focused on creating and stewarding a sustainable, equitable, and community-driven parallel housing system that provides opportunities unavailable in the general market. This includes supportive housing, affordable rental, and attainable homeownership models that support people exiting homelessness, strengthen housing stability, and address gaps such as missing-middle housing.

Reporting to the Director, Affordable Housing, the Property Manager is responsible for protecting the long-term value, performance, and sustainability of United Way Maritimes' housing portfolio. Working closely with housing team members and organizational partners, this role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure housing assets are operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with United Way Maritimes' values and applicable legislation.

The successful candidate will oversee building operations, maintenance programs, capital planning, contracted service providers, financial performance, regulatory compliance, insurance administration, and risk management while helping create housing communities where residents can thrive.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Asset Management: Develop and implement long-term asset management strategies to ensure the sustainability, performance, and value of United Way Maritimes' housing portfolio. This includes supervising property coordinators, managing capital and lifecycle planning, coordinating preventative maintenance and asset assessments, and supporting the transition of new developments into operations.
  • Property Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of housing assets to ensure buildings are safe, secure, clean, and well-maintained. This includes monitoring building performance, completing minor repairs when appropriate, developing operational standards, and coordinating emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
  • Contract & Vendor Management: Manage the procurement, contracting, and performance of maintenance contractors and service providers to support effective property operations. This includes overseeing RFP processes, negotiating service agreements, monitoring quality standards, and ensuring all contracted work complies with legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure housing operations comply with Residential Tenancy legislation, Occupational Health & Safety requirements, fire and accessibility standards, insurance obligations, and other regulatory requirements. This includes coordinating inspections and reporting, managing insurance claims, and proactively identifying and mitigating operational risks.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum five years of progressive experience in property or asset management.
  • Education: Post-secondary education in Property Management, Facilities Management, Business Administration, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated repair, maintenance and construction skills.
  • Experience supporting direct reports, providing guidance, mentorship and accountability.
  • Experience managing affordable or multi-unit residential housing preferred.
  • Experience managing operating budgets and capital planning.
  • Experience procuring and managing contracted services.
  • Knowledge of building systems and preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with Residential Tenancy legislation.
  • Strong contract administration and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess construction/repair tools and access to reliable vehicle.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Excel, and property management software.

Our ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative leader who combines strong planning and systems-thinking skills with a practical, hands-on approach to property and asset management. They are financially and operationally disciplined, an excellent communicator and relationship builder, and are able to balance long-term planning with day-to-day operational demands. Calm, solutions-focused, and committed to continuous improvement, they thrive in collaborative environments and are dedicated to supporting organizational learning and excellence.

United Way Maritimes is committed to a comprehensive compensation package including salary, vacation pay, additional time-off during the December holiday period, and professional development and training. The semi-monthly rate of pay for this position is $2,050.

Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to our Administrative & HR Assistant, Aleks Wilson, for a conversation about the role, salary range, and total compensation package. To contact Aleks, please email: View email address on jobs.swagapp.com or View phone number on jobs.swagapp.com.
