Position Summary
Genevant has an opportunity for an experienced, practical and commercially minded Director/Senior Director, Contracts and Transactions, to join our Legal team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), this role will provide legal and transactional support across the organization, with a particular focus on research and development-related contracts and technology licenses and collaborations. The ideal candidate will thrive working independently to manage and execute on the day-to-day contracting required to keep a biopharma business moving, with the ability to grow into a leadership role for complex business negotiations.
The successful candidate will work closely with the CLO, senior leadership, Business Development, R&D, Procurement, Finance, and other functional leaders and is comfortable participating in and guiding executive level business/legal discussions. This is a hybrid position based in Vancouver, B.C.

Responsibilities:

• Draft, review, negotiate and otherwise manage the contracting process for a wide variety of contracts, including research and development-related agreements, software licenses and other G&A agreements, to align with Genevant’s objectives.
• Support the CLO and other members of senior leadership and grow into a leadership role in the negotiation and preparation of complex technology licenses and collaborations.

• Maintain a well functioning contract management system.
• Support contract lifecycle management, including tracking agreements, renewals, amendments, extension and key dates.

• Act as a trusted legal business partner who provides practical, business-oriented legal advice and explains complex legal issues in clear, understandable terms.
• Help internal teams understand contractual commitments, risks, and negotiation priorities.
• Manage other legal-related responsibilities as assigned by the CLO.

Requirements, Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Juris Doctor from a recognized law school.
• 2-6 years of relevant experience in-house / law firm experience in a contracts or general corporate role, preferably within the life sciences industry.
• Experience with complex pharma collaborations is a plus.
• Strong communication and executive presence, with credibility at the senior leadership level.
• Proven experience in contract negotiation and management, with the ability to lead the process independently end-to-end.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
• Strong business acumen with sound judgment in integrating legal advice with business objectives.
• Licensed to practice law in British Columbia and in good standing with the Law Society of BC.
• Need to interact with colleagues in Eastern (3-hour time difference) and Central European time zones (9-hour time difference) may require worktime flexibility.
• Occasional travel may be required.

The Canadian base salary range for this position is CAD$170,000 – 230,000 excluding performance bonus and benefits. The base salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The salary offered may be higher or lower than the posted range, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and other factors.
