The Opportunity

Acumen Agency is seeking a Design Services Sales & Business Development Director to develop and lead client acquisition for our global design practice.

This is a sales-focused leadership position for someone who understands how to acquire clients for professional design services , build strong commercial relationships, leverage an existing network, and teach and lead other business development professionals.

The ideal candidate has experience selling design services, working with creative agencies, or developing business for design professionals and understands how to turn creative capabilities into profitable client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategies for acquiring design clients.
• Generate new business through direct outreach, networking, referrals, partnerships, events, and other channels.
• Identify businesses, corporations, government organizations, nonprofits, startups, and entrepreneurs requiring design services.
• Build relationships with executives, marketing leaders, communications professionals, business owners, and other decision-makers.
• Leverage an existing professional network to generate qualified opportunities.
• Qualify prospects and understand their design requirements.
• Develop proposals, presentations, service packages, and commercial offers.
• Lead sales conversations, negotiations, and closing activities.
• Develop recurring design relationships and long-term client accounts.
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell Acumen's marketing, printing, web, technology, and other professional services.
• Build repeatable client acquisition systems for the design practice.
• Train, mentor, and lead other business development professionals.
• Teach effective prospecting, networking, outreach, qualification, proposal development, follow-up, negotiation, and closing.
• Establish sales targets and performance metrics.
• Track pipeline activity, conversion rates, client acquisition, revenue, recurring business, and profitability.
• Recruit and develop additional design business development professionals as the practice grows.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in design services sales, creative agency business development, client acquisition, or professional services sales .
• Strong understanding of the design industry and commercial design services.
• Demonstrated ability to acquire and retain clients.
• Excellent prospecting, networking, communication, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
• An established professional network of businesses, executives, marketing professionals, or organizational decision-makers is strongly preferred.
• Ability to teach and develop other sales and business development professionals.
• Strong commercial understanding of how design services are packaged, priced, and sold.
• Proven history of generating revenue through business development.
• Entrepreneurial, commercially minded, and results-oriented.

Compensation & Career Opportunity

This position begins on a performance-based compensation model , tied to successful client acquisition and measurable revenue generated.

As the candidate demonstrates consistent results and the design practice expands, there is an opportunity to transition into a full-time salaried leadership position overseeing design business development.

High-performing candidates may ultimately build and lead a national or global design sales organization.

Remote | Global

This position can be performed remotely while developing design business across international markets.
