The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking a compassionate and motivated Child and Family Support Case Coordinator to join our Justice Team. If you are passionate about strengthening families, fostering community well-being, and promoting culturally grounded support services, this role is for you.

About the Role

Implementing prevention supports and intervention activities are paramount work within the KDFN Child & Family Supports team. Reporting to the Manager, Child and Family Supports (or delegate), the Child and Family Support Case Manager is responsible for providing culturally informed, comprehensive case management services to Kwanlin Dün First Nation children and families with a focus on keeping children safe and connected to family, community, and culture. The larger Child & Family Supports team accomplishes this by utilizing a two eyed seeing approach balancing the traditional and cultural knowledge along with contemporary child welfare best practices. The successful candidate will be proficient in case planning, management, evaluation, relationship building and able to prioritize working with the cultural components of the larger team and KDFN community. The ability to meaningfully engage and work with families, prioritizing child wellness and safety is a fundamental element to the position. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability working with families to assess needs, strengths, develop and implement collaborative family plans. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and relationship building skills, a deep understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma, creative problem solving, child protection processes and legislation, and a commitment to trauma-informed and culturally relevant support.

Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume) : An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Relevant certifications in child welfare, family capacity building, or case management are highly desirable.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and families in a case management capacity as well as family capacity building.
• Experience in working with vulnerable populations, including children in care, families involved in domestic violence, and families impacted by substance use/addictions and/or mental health concerns.
• Training and certification in the areas of cultural competency, trauma informed care/approaches, strengths-based approaches, family capacity building, motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention are considered an asset.

Required knowledge and skills (what we assess):

• Knowledge of child and family service legislation, child protection procedures, and trauma-informed practices is essential.
• Knowledge of the Indian Act, Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action, MMIWG National Action Plan, United Nations Convention of the Rights of a Child, Child & Family Services Act, United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various partners.
• Knowledge of community resources and support agencies available to families.
• Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach towards clients.

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.

Conditions of Employment: an acceptable pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search, valid class 5 Driver’s License (class 4 or willingness to obtain is an asset); First Aid & CPR-C; Food Safe Level 1; TB Clearance.
