Community Liaison & Programming Coordinator

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director & Board of Directors, the Community Liaison & Programming Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring that community members have the tools, knowledge, and connections necessary to navigate available supports while fostering an inclusive and safe environment.

Through an overall 26-month initiative, Queer Yukon Society aims to address the needs and barriers to equality faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities in rural Yukon. This will be achieved by fostering a resilient network of grassroots leaders who will work to combat hate, reduce stigma, and improve access to services and resources for remote and rural 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.

The project will involve a combination of in-person programming to build localized community support and online platforms to extend the reach of vital information and resources across Yukon. The work carried out during this period will contribute to a lasting impact on 2SLGBTQI+ safety, inclusion, and accessibility throughout the territory.

As a member of the Queer Yukon Society team, the Community Liaison & Programming Coordinator will have a strong understanding of the organization’s Policies, Procedures, Guidelines, Vision, Mission, and Values. It is the responsibility of the employee to seek clarification from management when information is unclear or not readily available.

This is a public-facing job, which the incumbent preferably performs from the QYS office in Whitehorse while remote work arrangements can be made for persons based in other communities. Evening and weekend work required.

Location: In Person, QYS office, Whitehorse, with remote work arrangements available for persons based in other communities, frequent travel to Yukon communities required

Hours: Full-time (1.0 FTE), primarily weekday hours, with occasional evenings or weekends

Compensation: $40.30-$43.62 (Commensurate with Experience) (+$1 communities premium)

Benefits: As per QYS Union Collective Agreement

TERM: Term Position until March 31, 2027 (possible extension based on funding)

Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle & a Vulnerable Sector security check

Key Responsibilities:

Community Liaison & Programming Coordinator will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and coordination of community engagement initiatives under this project. This role will focus on:

• Building and supporting a network of rural 2SLGBTQIA+ community leaders.
• Developing and facilitating programming (both in-person and virtual) that addresses safety, inclusion, and accessibility.
• Strengthening relationships between rural communities and essential services.
• Compiling and sharing relevant information and resources for long-term impact.

Community Engagement & Liaison Support

• Identify, recruit, and support rural grassroots leaders in 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across Yukon.
• Facilitate collaboration, mentorship, and networking opportunities among local leaders.
• Provide practical tools and guidance to help leaders design and deliver inclusive programming.
• Build partnerships with local and regional organizations to enhance community support.
• Support drop-in and outreach programming as needed.

Program Development & Implementation

• Design and coordinate in-person and virtual programming that fosters safety, inclusion, and accessibility.
• Plan and deliver community workshops, training sessions, and engagement events according to work plan and project deliverables.
• Support creation and maintenance of digital platforms that connect rural communities and share resources.
• Ensure programming is responsive to community priorities and culturally appropriate.

Resource Development & Distribution

• Compile, develop, and share accessible educational materials, toolkits, and guides for community use.
• Coordinate print and digital resource distribution in collaboration with local partners.
• Support community communications and outreach to extend project impact.

Advocacy & Outreach

• Serve as a liaison between rural 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and relevant services providers, governments, and advocacy groups.
• Support local leaders to identify and address systemic barriers to inclusion.
• Promote project initiatives through storytelling, community communications, and public engagement.

Reporting & Administration

• Track engagement metrics and evaluate project outcomes.
• Prepare progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, including funders.
• Contribute to planning, implementation, and evaluation of broader QYS programs.
• Support funding and grant reporting as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Experience in community organizing, outreach, or program coordination
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse 2SLGBTQIA+ and Yukon communities
• Understanding of barriers faced by 2SLGBTQIA+ people, particularly in rural and remote communities
• Cultural awareness and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with sensitivity to Indigenous communities and decolonial practices
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Competency with basic office software (Google Workspace / Microsoft Office) and virtual collaboration tools
• Willingness and ability to work in‑office in Whitehorse (with remote work arrangements available for persons from communities) with regular travel to Yukon communities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow Queer Yukon Society’s policies, procedures, and values

Assets (Preferred):

• Experience developing resources or training materials for community groups or service providers
• Knowledge of Yukon’s social services, health systems, and/or community support networks
• Familiarity with grant reporting and program evaluation
• Lived experience as a member of 2SLGBTQIA+ and/or Indigenous communities
