Clinical Director, Pharmacy Services

Clinical Director, Pharmacy Services – Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) is a national, not‑for‑profit shared services organization supporting health care providers across Canada. Position Overview

The Clinical Director provides clinical and operational support, direction, and advice to the Senior Director, Pharmacy Services in developing, managing, and implementing the contracting process for pharmaceuticals and related initiatives. The Director serves as a clinical pharmacy leader for designated committees (primarily the Pharmacy Functional Advisory Committee and related subcommittees) and ensures that the sourcing process adheres to all applicable regulatory standards. Responsibilities also include managing pharmaceutical supplier performance, monitoring and communicating drug shortages to Members, and providing strategic guidance on pharmacy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage contracting initiatives for pharmaceuticals and associated products, including RFPs, negotiated sole‑source contracts, RFEOIs, ACANs and pricing agreements.
  • Perform risk assessment using the Clinical Risk Tool for all contracting initiatives.
  • Negotiate contracts in collaboration with the Senior Director.
  • Communicate with Members throughout sourcing projects, summarizing outcomes and providing relevant provincial updates.
  • Monitor product and technology developments within the pharmaceutical industry and assess new products for contract inclusion.
  • Maintain pharmacy contracts and agreements throughout their lifecycle.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of pharmacy sourcing policies and procedures.
  • Manage interchangeability of contracted products, backorder management, and reimbursement inquiries.
  • Provide drug product information as required.
  • Manage contract product conversion and product concerns tracking/resolution process.
  • Serve on Pharmacy Committee or subcommittee work (education sessions, strategic planning, project approvals).
  • Manage the RFP product and label scoring program.
  • Manage product recalls, including risk assessment and communication strategy through MitigAID.
  • Present Member Spend Analytics and Opportunity reports at least biannually.
  • Support new Pharmacy Member contract conversions, education, and training, including accreditation and procurement directives.
  • Analyze sourcing initiatives using financial and non‑financial scoring, developing mandatory and clinical criteria.
  • Apply product safety criteria during evaluation and scoring for assigned initiatives.
  • Review alternative suppliers and therapeutic alternatives.
  • Facilitate drug shortages meetings with Members, formulate action and communication plans.
  • Perform risk analysis for additions to contract (conversion risk, latex, etc.).
  • Track supply disruption risk rating and tasks through MMC’s supply disruption management program, MitigAID.
  • Attend provincial/territorial drug shortages task teams, Health Canada multistakeholder calls, and provincial meetings as required.
  • Collaborate in strategic sourcing initiatives for DIN and/or pharmaceutical‑related products.
  • Execute all aspects of the clinical component of the Med Surg RFP initiative as assigned.
  • Monitor pharmacy business performance and implement action plans to maintain targets.
  • Conduct formal supplier business reviews, meeting with top suppliers on current topics such as MMC updates, product issues, contract compliance, and metrics.

Qualifications and Skills

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Pharmacist licensed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists or eligible for licensure.
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy or entry‑level PharmD degree.
  • Minimum four years of pharmacy practice experience in a hospital setting.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, leadership, team‑building, business acumen, and attention to detail.
  • Customer‑centric mindset focused on enhancing the customer experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and electronic communication.

Mandatory

  • Pharmacist licensed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists or eligible for licensing by OCP.
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy degree or entry‑level PharmD.
  • Minimum four years of pharmacy practice experience in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational/time‑management, leadership, team‑building, business acumen, and attention to detail.
  • Customer‑centric mindset and service orientation.

Preferred

  • Post‑graduate degree such as an MBA or master’s in a relevant field.
  • Expert clinical knowledge in one defined area (cardiology, oncology, acute care, paediatrics, geriatrics, infectious diseases, surgery, or medicine).
  • Project management experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English.

Travel

  • Ability to travel to Mohawk Medbuy offices if required.

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID‑19 vaccination must be submitted to Human Resources.

MMC is a Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) employer offering a comprehensive benefits package and flexible remote work options. The targeted salary range for this role is $110,729 – $125,722, dependent on experience.
