The Opportunity
Current CUPE Classification Concept: Arena Attendant:
- Installs, removes, marks, and maintains ice surface in an Arena.
- Operation and care of the ice resurfacing equipment and monitoring operation of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Performs a variety of cleaning, general maintenance and repair tasks throughout the facility.
- Provides excellent customer service to facility clients.
- monitors the behaviour of patrons and spectators.
The Design Works Centre is a premier tournament and ice competition Centre in the region. The facility has two year round NHL sized ice surfaces used for hockey, figure skating, speed skating, sledge hockey and public skating. The Design Works Centre is conveniently located at the hub for recreation and sport - the Community Knowledge Campus.

Responsibilities
The primary function of the Arena Attendant is to ensure safe, inviting and quality ice surfaces. Performs general maintenance, set-up, cleaning and repair duties. Monitors operation of the physical plant including heating, ventilation and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Operates and maintains equipment required for performance of duties including skid steer, ice resurface, snow clearing and related equipment. Installs, removes and maintains ice surfaces. Safe work practices must be observed for all tasks.
You Bring
The successful applicant will have:
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Level I Arena Operator Certification (asset).
- Level II Arena Operator Certification (asset).
- Current experience in the cleaning and upkeep of a multi-purpose recreation facility with ice.
- Attention to detail a necessity.
- Self-starting attitude and the ability to make decisions.
- Proven experience solving problems with an exceptional service approach.
- Ability to work well in a high stress team environment.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a positive and professional manner through tactful communication (both verbal and written) with co-workers and customers. Additionally, he/she will be self-motivated, organizing his/her work to clean the facility, perform minor maintenance tasks and maintain the ice surfaces within established facility standards. This individual must be comfortable making operational & customer service decisions if the supervisor is not available.
Hours
Casual, call-in basis, this position can fulfill any shift within our operational hours. Operational hours are Monday to Sunday, 6:00 am to 2:00am.
Salary/Wage
Arena Attendant - $35.79 per hour as per CUPE Collective Agreement
