Job Responsibility: Student Affairs Thunder Bay Part-time Permanent

Overview

The Financial Literacy Specialist is responsible for increasing awareness of financial opportunities available and building financial literacy skills of both future and current Lakehead University students. As part of the Student Awards & Financial Aid Team, this position works closely with the Associate Registrar of Student Awards & Financial Aid, to provide interactive and engaging financial literacy programming to prospective and current students, develop and share information on financial options and supports available to students, and provide financial advising support to students. The position works with local/regional elementary and secondary schools, teachers, students, and departments to plan, coordinate and deliver virtual and in-person presentations, workshops, events/activities and communications to support the development of financial literacy skills. The position provides advice on current trends and topics on the delivery and development of financial literacy programming. This position supports the administration of the Lakehead University Work-Study program.

Responsibilities

• Provide interactive and engaging financial literacy programming to prospective and current students
• Develop and share information on financial options and support available to students
• Support the development and implementation of a program of Student Financial Ambassadors to help host events on both campuses, including offering peer-based programming and support to students
• Create, plan and execute a series of events and activities for students to participate in throughout the academic school year to build awareness of financial options available and support financial literacy skill building
• Work with local/regional elementary and secondary schools, teachers, students, and departments to plan, coordinate and deliver virtual and in-person presentations, workshops, events/activities and communications to support the development of financial literacy skills
• Provide advice on current trends and topics on the delivery and development of financial literacy programming

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent, degree in business, education or equivalent preferred along with experience working in an educational setting.
• Strong understanding of financial literacy and experience in developing and/or offering financial education and instructions to post-secondary students or other audiences
• Demonstrated excellence in public speaking with the ability to create and deliver dynamic presentations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
• Exceptional organizational skills and excellent judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to foster, develop and maintain successful relationships with multiple audiences.
• A Class G driver's unrestricted license.
