Climate Adaptation Coordinator-C1284

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to a designated Manager, this position works in a team environment with other environmental practitioners on the implementation of environmental policies, plans, programs and projects, and related business plans and initiatives, providing support to the City of London's climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives and implementation. This position provides expertise and advice on climate change resilience and adaptation for City capital projects and operational programs, as required, and together works on related initiatives across the Corporation and externally with a wide range of rightsholders and interest-holders.

Work Performed:

• Collaboratively initiates, develops, coordinates and promotes climate change adaptation and resilience initiatives internally, and with a wide range of external parties to reduce risks and vulnerabilities and support improved corporate and community resilience to climate change impacts.
• Recommends, conducts and provides project management for studies, research, and projects to support climate change mitigation/adaptation at the individual, household, community, and organizational levels.
• Develops and reviews terms of reference, study designs, and requests for proposals to obtain services from private sector product/service providers as well as community partners relating to climate change initiatives.
• Provides guidance to contractors and consultants in the execution of studies, projects and other related work.
• Solicits public input through engagement initiatives, including preparing, coordinating and presenting on climate change resilience and adaptation matters and climate action at community meetings.
• Compiles and analyses physical, socio-economic and geospatial data associated with climate change adaptation and mitigation to inform climate action planning and updates to corporate and community climate change risk and vulnerability assessments.
• Maintains an awareness of developments and advancements in the climate change field, including aspects and issues related to municipal authority and planning.
• Works jointly with other City service areas and/or local groups and organizations in the planning and delivery of climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives.
• Represents the City of London as the primary point of contact with Provincial and Federal agencies and ministries on routine activities related to climate change adaptation.
• Represents the Division and/or the City of London in local committees and sub-committees and provides support and advice to local interest-holders on the subject matter of climate change adaptation.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Completion of an Honours Degree in Environmental Studies/Sciences, Climate Changes Studies, Geography, Planning, or equivalent.

Experience:

• Two years of related experience in any of the following: climate change action program management, climate policy development role in a public or government sector; climate change adaptation-related research.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:

• Experience in government sectors (particularly municipal) is an asset.
• Experience with community engagement related to climate change is an asset.
• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft 360 Suite, including spreadsheets and various software.
• Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and information and present in reports and documents understood by a wide range of audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively problem-solve issues and establish feasible alternatives to support change.
• Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, agencies, consultants and contractors and the public verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated effective customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Compensation & Other Information:

$57,720 - $82,894 (Level 12)

This posting is for one (1) permanent full-time position being filled on a permanent full-time basis.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
