Project Manager, Design and Construction (Mississauga)

Job Summary

The Project Manager role in the Design & Construction Department leads the supervision of capital, renovation and renewal projects from schematic design through to the end of the guarantee period, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, landscape, site servicing, and construction requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, landscape, site servicing, and construction schedules, drawings, specifications and tender documents.
• Prepare construction tenders, recommend acceptance of or changes to working drawings and specifications for assigned projects.
• Monitor the performance of architects, consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to standards, regulations and contractual obligations.
• Make timely on‑the‑spot decisions and manage multiple projects concurrently while balancing stakeholder expectations.
• Liaise with contractors, architects, government officials, school principals, Board staff, and other stakeholders to share project information and address project‑related issues.
• Ensure hazardous material management and promote environmental health and safety throughout the project life cycle.
• Compile a comprehensive design history of external architects and consultants, research new construction concepts and systems, and develop and recommend standards and specifications for the design process.
• Prepare reports for the Board of Trustees and its Committees, and liaise with the Board solicitor on matters relating to the Ontario Construction Act.

Qualifications

• Post‑secondary degree or diploma in engineering, architecture or a related field; current engineering or architectural certification in Ontario an asset.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in institutional or commercial building construction, with hands‑on project management experience.
• Strong knowledge of building science, construction administration, budgeting, specification documents, costing analysis and relevant regulatory codes (Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Electrical, etc.).
• Excellent skills in managing several concurrent new construction and building renovation projects.
• Knowledge of building codes, engineering standards, health and safety legislation and Ministry of Labour standards.
• Demonstrated technical, presentation, public engagement and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, and/or Revit; experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar tools is an asset.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and own vehicle.

Additional Skills & Assets

• Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation from PMI.
• Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or Architect (Ontario Association of Architects) or OAAAS certification.
• Minimum university degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Finance or Project Management.
• Working knowledge of Construction Law and C.C.D.C. legislation.
• Completion of a Heights Training Certificate.

• Preference will be given to qualified members of the Administrative Staff Group (ASG).
• Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check before commencing employment.
