About the Role:
The Specialist, Health Promotion, provides program coordination, delivery, and evaluation of culturally grounded health promotion services within the Metis Nation of Ontario’s Healthy Children and Families Program, with a specific focus on prenatal and perinatal health, parenting, and early childhood development. The Specialist designs and delivers prevention, education, and wellness programming that reflects Metis culture, traditions, and community needs. This role collaborates with internal teams, community partners, and funders to develop wholistic, client- and family-centered approaches to health promotion, prevention, education, and outreach. The Specialist contributes directly to MNO’s Prime Purpose by empowering Metis individuals and families to enhance their wellbeing through wellness promotion, prevention, and community-based education.

What you will be doing:

• The Specialist contributes directly to MNO’s Prime Purpose by empowering Metis children and families to enhance their health and wellbeing through culturally grounded health promotion, prevention, early intervention, and family-focused education.
• Delivers health promotion, prevention, education, and outreach activities to Metis citizens, communities, and organizations.
• Coordinates workshops, webinars, training sessions, health fairs, and community events related to prenatal and perinatal health, infant feeding, parenting, early childhood development, and health promotion.
• Collaborates with internal teams, Indigenous partners, and community organizations to support culturally relevant health promotion initiatives.
• Prepares targeted health promotion materials, resource tools, program content, and communications aligned with cultural safety principles.
• Supports program evaluation activities, including data collection, client satisfaction surveys, outcome tracking, and reporting specific to health promotion and program outcomes.
• Contributes to grant applications, funder reports, and program submissions related to prenatal and perinatal health, infant feeding, parenting, early childhood development, and health promotion.
• Represents the MNO’s Healthy Children and Families Program at community events, public forms, and stakeholder meetings.
• Participates in continuous quality improvement, professional development, and team-based planning initiatives.
• Ensures compliance with privacy legislation, documentation standards, and organizational policies.
• Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)
• Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
• Performs other job/branch-related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• University Degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or a related health or human services field.
• 1 to 3 years of experience delivering health promotion, prevention, wellness education, or public health programming.
• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations
• Experience delivering health promotion workshops, presentations, and community-based wellness initiatives.
• Experience coordinating community outreach, wellness events, or large-scale prevention initiatives.
• Strong desire to act in the service of Metis citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
• Applied knowledge of health promotion, prevention, wellness education, and public health frameworks, particularly as they relate to children, caregivers and families.
• Knowledge of Metis culture, identity, approaches to health, and culturally grounded health promotion and education.
• Knowledge of prenatal and perinatal health, infant feeding, parenting, early childhood development, and other health factors impacting children and families.
• Knowledge of program development, community engagement, health education curriculum design, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong facilitation, public speaking, and group engagement skills.
• Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
• Knowledge of privacy legislation, documentation standards, and data collection procedures.
• Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams, community partners, and stakeholders.
• Valid G License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Willing and able to travel for the purpose of meeting program objectives and attend training.
