About The Opportunity
Our client, located in the west end of Ottawa, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist to join their finance team. This permanent opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys a hands-on role combining full-cycle accounts payable, payroll administration, and month-end accounting responsibilities. Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records while supporting day-to-day finance operations in a collaborative environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Process high-volume accounts payable invoices, including PO and non-PO invoices
- Prepare cheque runs and electronic payments
- Maintain vendor records and reconcile vendor accounts
- Monitor cash requirements related to vendor payments
- Respond to vendor inquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Complete monthly HST reconciliations and prepare remittances
- Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and journal entries
- Perform general ledger and bank reconciliations
- Reconcile corporate credit card statements
- Review and process employee expense reports
- Maintain fixed asset records and reconcile prepaid expenses
- Support month-end and year-end accounting activities
- Process Canadian payroll using Ceridian PowerPay (or similar payroll software)
- Prepare payroll remittances and statutory filings including WSIB, EHT, T4s, ROEs, taxable benefits, and other government reporting
- Reconcile payroll and employee benefit accounts for audit purposes
- Assist with additional accounting and finance projects as required
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
- Experience in full-cycle accounts payable and Canadian payroll processing
- Working knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory remittances, and government reporting requirements
- Experience performing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end accounting
- Experience working with ERP/accounting software and electronic payment platforms
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support the broader finance team
About the Job
- Salary: $60,000 to $73,000 DOE
- Hybrid environment, at least 2 days a week onsite
- 3 weeks’ vacation
