Our department has a wide variety of services including chemical stores, NMR lab, X-Ray analysis lab, and a Mass Spectrometry lab. Reporting to the Manager, Finance and HR Administration, the Grant and Financial Officer provides Grants and Financial support to the department. Your responsibilities will include:

• Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
• Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
• Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
• Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts
• Ensuring research sponsor financial terms have been applied correctly
• Liaising with internal contacts to resolve restricted fund administration and reporting issues
• Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives
• Processing payroll

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and/or Accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum four (4) years' of recent and relevant financial experience related to research grants, and contracts, in an university academic department.
• Solid work experience in aspects of accounting, including payroll, account reconciliation, and preparation of financial statements. Working experience with general accounting principles and procedures.
• Solid work experience interpreting and applying financial policies.
• Experience working with granting agency and interpreting and adhering to granting agencies' funding guidelines and policies.
• Proven experience with compiling, investigating, and analyzing financial information and making recommendations based on the outcome of analyses.
• Experience with financial forecasting analysis abilities.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Highly proficient in using MS Office with advanced MS Excel skills.
• Experience with University's Administrative Management System (FIS, DIS, RIS and HRIS) or other similar systems.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to also work independently with minimal supervision.
• Detailed orientated with demonstrated flexibility. Must have attention to detail and must be accurate in performing work.

• Strong ability to work under pressure, meet various deadlines, and cope with various tasks.
• Ability to handle matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
