The Department of Health is seeking an individual to join the Shared Analytics Branch as a Geospatial Specialist in Fredericton.

Reporting to the Manager of Analytics Response Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, testing, and conducting geo-analysis of complex health system issues and identification of population health insights to assist in the planning of current and future Departmental projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for communicating results and insights to various stakeholders and decision-makers as well as represent the Department on various federal/provincial/territorial, interdepartmental, intradepartmental and multi-stakeholder committees.

As a Geospatial Specialist, you will be responsible for:

• Developing and conducting spatial health analysis using GIS/mapping software;
• Applying statistical, epidemiological, and algorithmic techniques to spatial analysis;
• Providing interpretation of complex data and results;
• Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data;
• Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources;
• Producing reports and presentations of geographic data utilizing data visualizations;
• Preparing large and varied administrative datasets for analysis;
• Manipulating data sets using various statistical and data management software;
• Developing and promoting the Geospatial program and GIS Governance within the health system;
• Participating on GIS working groups and work with data source stakeholders/partners.

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor`s degree in Data Science, Geography, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science or Engineering, or a related area;
• A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience to include two (2) years working with large administrative data sets;
• Experience with data manipulation software such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, and/or Python and experience with ESRI`s GIS & Mapping tools;
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment at a lower level may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.

Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates that possess the following asset qualification:

• Experience with Microsoft Power BI

Candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application the asset qualification, in addition to the essential qualifications, in order to be given further consideration.

Salary: 67,600 to $94,406 per annum (Pay Band 5)
