Position: Corporate Counsel – Commercial Engagement

Duration: 6 months

Location: Montreal (Hybrid/Onsite as required)

Hourly pay rate: $90.00-$100.00 commensurate with experience

About the Opportunity

Elevate has partnered with a leading global natural resources company that supplies essential materials used in infrastructure, technology, and energy transition initiatives worldwide. The organization operates across multiple continents and is recognized for its focus on sustainability, innovation, and responsible business practices.

We are seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel – Commercial to support a broad range of commercial activities, including sales & marketing, trading, marine, and logistics across Atlantic markets. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with global business teams and senior legal leadership on complex, high-value transactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements related to commodity sales, procurement, and trading, including complex pricing and financing structures
• Provide legal advice on commercial arrangements across the commodity supply chain
• Support the management of disputes, claims, and supply-related matters
• Monitor regulatory and legal developments and advise on potential business impacts
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, and governance teams to ensure best practices
• Support key initiatives such as digital transformation and decarbonization efforts
• Develop, review, and maintain legal templates and documentation
• Deliver legal training and guidance to internal stakeholders
• Manage relationships with external counsel
• Construction background

Qualifications & Experience

• 10+ years of post-qualification legal experience, gained in a global corporation and/or top-tier law firm
• French, English, and Spanish capabilities.
• Strong experience in commercial law, with exposure to commodity sales, trading, or supply chain matters preferred
• Excellent drafting skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute strategically
• Qualified lawyer in good standing
