Senior Consultant, Risk Management

Position within Grand River Hospital (and St. Mary’s General Hospital) as part of the upcoming merger and shared vision for future healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide support and leadership for risk management throughout the organization.
• Manage the legal claims administration process and related correspondence with the hospital insurer, adjuster, and legal counsel.
• Provide advice and consultation to internal stakeholders in response to risk inquiries.
• Coordinate risk management and enterprise risk management projects and initiatives such as the Risk Assessment Checklist (RAC) process and the Enterprise Risk Management (IRM) Plan.
• Develop, implement, and review policies and processes required to reduce risk within the organization.
• Participate on corporate committees and working groups from a risk management perspective.
• Collaborate with other teams and quality initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Healthcare Management or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree in Business or Health Services Administration or a related discipline (preferred).
• Certification in healthcare risk management and/or patient safety (preferred).
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in risk management, patient safety, or quality management.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks and time demands.
• Superior judgment, tact, and diplomacy, including proven meeting and group facilitation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills, including the ability to present information to large groups.
• Computer literacy and proficiency with all Microsoft applications.
• Experience with data analysis, measurement, and techniques.
• Collaborate with quality teams to align risk initiatives with the hospital’s quality improvement goals, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
