The Director, Finance - Revenue provides strategic leadership and oversight for the revenue side accounting functions of the Canadian Red Cross, with accountability for billing and accounts receivable, trust fund management, treasury and cash management, and donation processing.
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the role ensures revenue-related operations are accurate, timely, well governed, and supported by clear policies, documented processes, meaningful performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
In this role, you will :
Billing & Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Lead billing and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely, accurate invoicing and effective collection practices across all revenue streams.
- Define and monitor core performance metrics (e.g., billing timeliness, aging, DSO, collection effectiveness) and translate them into clear team objectives.
- Oversee AR aging, credit risk, and collection strategies; identify trends and drive corrective actions with business partners.
- Ensure alignment between billing, revenue recognition, and cash collection in collaboration with Accounting Operations and Program Finance.
Trust Fund Management
- Oversee the stewardship and management of trust funds, ensuring compliance with donor agreements, funding conditions, and internal governance requirements.
- Monitor and report on trust fund balances, activity, and aging, providing clear insight to senior leadership and the audit committee.
- Establish and maintain robust policies, controls, and process documentation to support consistency, audit readiness, and transparency.
- Ensure sufficient restricted cash is held at all times to fully cover trust fund obligations and planned disbursements.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Lead treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, banking relationships, and administration of credit facilities.
- Manage short term investments in accordance with approved Statements of Investment Policy and Procedures (SIPPs), balancing liquidity needs with opportunities to optimize investment income.
- Monitor cash and liquidity metrics and assess funding timing risks, particularly in periods of heightened operational or emergency activity.
- Ensure treasury practices are governed by clear policies, documented procedures, and strong internal controls.
Donation Processing & Revenue Operations
- Provide oversight of donation processing to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant recording, receipting, reconciliation, and reporting of donor contributions.
- Maintain strong end to end controls across donation intake, systems integrations, revenue recognition, and reporting.
- Drive improvements to donation processing workflows to enhance efficiency, data quality, and donor experience.
- Partner with Philanthropy and Technology teams to streamline processes and reduce manual intervention.
Governance, Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain clear policies, standard operating procedures, and process documentation across all revenue functions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce manual effort, improve cycle times, strengthen controls, and enhance service quality.
- Promote cross training and knowledge transfer within teams to mitigate key person risk and improve operational resilience.
- Champion the responsible use of automation, data analytics, and AI enabled tools to improve monitoring, exception management, and reporting.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead and develop leaders and professional team members, setting clear accountabilities, performance objectives, and development plans.
- Foster a collaborative, high performing, and inclusive team culture grounded in stewardship, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Contribute to finance departmental planning, workforce strategy, budgeting, and change initiatives.
What we are looking for:
- Minimum 8-12 years of progressive experience in finance, revenue operations, treasury, or related roles.
- University degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation (CPA required); graduate degree or diploma in finance or business administration is an asset.
- Advanced expertise in billing and AR, trust fund stewardship, treasury and cash management, and donation processing, ideally in a complex not for profit, public sector, or regulated environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing policies, process documentation, performance metrics, and internal control frameworks.
- Proven people leadership experience, including leading managers and senior professionals.
- Strong understanding of not for profit accounting standards, donor and funding compliance requirements, and financial governance.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational improvement and leverage technology, automation, and data to enhance effectiveness and resilience.
- Strong communication, influence, and relationship building skills.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid / office based work environment with periods of competing priorities and time pressure.
- Some domestic or international travel may be required.
- In large scale emergencies, the role may be required to support disaster relief or emergency operational needs.
