The Program
The Indigenous Relations department is committed to Truth and Reconciliation. The department emphasizes building strong and empowering relationships with the children, young people, and families who are Indigenous. To ensure practice engages the community and aligns with Indigenous worldviews, the department facilitates cultural practices in all aspects of service delivery in the Agency. The team work to enhance culturally responsive practices in the programs, providing direct teachings and sharing knowledge to program staff, and facilitating cultural activities for the young people. The overarching goal is to enhance our practice approach by connecting Indigenous children, young people and families to their First Nation culture and communities. The team work with a network of Treaty 7 Elders to continue to build relationships and the vision for the department.
As a member of the Indigenous Relations team, you will be expected to provide support within all the programs at Hull Services.
The Position
We are looking for a regular, full-time Cultural Lead . The schedule for this role is mostly Monday to Friday and requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include non-structured work week including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Reporting to the Program Director, the Cultural Lead works closely with the Program Director and Elder(s) in the development of foundational processes for the delivery of Indigenous Relations program services and activities. This role supervises the Cultural Facilitator(s) to assist in day-to-day programming and provides logistical, administrative, and relational support to ensure cultural teachings, ceremonies, and resources are accessible and meaningful for youth and families. The role focuses on collaboration and coordination, acting as a bridge between cultural resources and program needs.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Learn from Agency Elders about Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing to guide relationship-building and maximize outcomes for young people, families, and community.
- Assist in developing department processes as well as document and maintain these in a program manual.
- Supervise department staff in the absence of the Director.
- Schedule and organize meetings, including preparing agendas and recording minutes.
- Assist Cultural Facilitators and Cultural Helpers in planning and organizing cultural activities and events.
- Work alongside Elders and the Agency Resource Elder, providing logistical support for ceremonies, gatherings, and cultural teachings (e.g., scheduling, materials preparation, transportation coordination).
- Help maintain cultural resource materials and ensure they are available for programs.
- Support staff in integrating cultural practices into program activities.
- Ensure Indigenous Support forms are completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Assist with tracking cultural program participation and outcomes for reporting purposes.
- Help manage calendars and communications related to cultural events.
- Participate in cultural events and gatherings to provide on-the-ground support.
- Act as a liaison between programs and cultural resources when needed.
- Support program participants in culturally relevant celebrations and gatherings related to healing.
- Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as required.
Qualifications And Skills
- Degree or diploma in Human Services or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
- Demonstrated initiative and reliability.
- Knowledge of intergenerational trauma, including its causes and impacts.
- Willingness to participate in activities, ceremonies and practices that promote well-being and Indigenous culture.
- Ability to work within a culturally diverse Indigenous program in a non-Indigenous specific organization.
- A solid network of relationships with other family-serving organizations, and the Indigenous community and resources.
- Flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal qualities including flexibility, effective communication and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated interest, commitment, consistency, and a high level of self-awareness, personal maturity and responsibility.
- Ability to work both independently and effectively in a team setting.
- Self-motivated, positive and able to take initiative.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and ability to drive Agency vehicles is preferred (min. 3 years driving experience with a class 5/GDL class 5 license).
- Cross-cultural competence including knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its recommendations, goals and activities.
- Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check) and Intervention Record Check.
