CHEO is seeking a collaborative and highly skilled Manager, Payroll to lead payroll operations across CHEO, CHEO Research Institute and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice. This is an opportunity for an experienced payroll leader to step into a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment where precision, service, compliance, and partnership matter every day.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, the Manager, Payroll provides strategic and operational leadership for payroll services supporting both unionized and non-unionized employees. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated payroll team while ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, legislative compliance, collective agreement interpretation, strong internal controls, and exceptional service delivery.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complexity, enjoys solving problems, and brings both technical expertise and people leadership to their work. You will play a key role in supporting organizational operations, maintaining financial integrity, and continuously improving payroll processes and systems in a highly collaborative environment.
As Manager, Payroll, you will lead and mentor the payroll team, fostering a culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, confidentiality, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence. You will serve as a senior escalation point for complex payroll matters and support leaders and employees through issues requiring expert interpretation and guidance.
You will oversee compliance with all payroll-related legislation and reporting requirements, including obligations associated with the Canada Revenue Agency, Ministry of Finance, Service Canada, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. The role also leads year-end payroll activities including T4 and related reconciliations, statutory filings, audit support, government reporting, and payroll account reconciliations.
The Manager, Payroll also plays a central role in systems configuration and process improvement initiatives. Working closely with partners across Talent Services, Labour Relations, Time Tracking, Information Services, and Finance, you will help implement enhancements within UKG and Workday while ensuring payroll practices remain aligned with collective agreements, organizational policies, and legislative requirements. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of payroll administration within a complex unionized environment, exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical capability, and the ability to build trusted partnerships across the organization. You are someone who can balance operational excellence with a thoughtful, service-oriented leadership approach.
What You Bring
You are an experienced payroll professional with 5 years of experience, who combines technical expertise with a collaborative and people-focused approach. You hold a College Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field, as well as an active Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation with the National Payroll Institute. You thrive in complex environments, are highly organized, and can balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and service. You are an experienced people leader with demonstrated success leading payroll operations in a complex environment, ideally within healthcare or another large, unionized setting. You bring deep knowledge of payroll legislation, pension administration, statutory remittances, and collective agreement interpretation, along with experience managing payroll systems, audits, reconciliations, and year-end processes.
You are known for your integrity, sound judgment, and ability to navigate sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism. You are collaborative, solutions-focused, and comfortable working across multiple teams and priorities in a dynamic environment. Experience with UKG, Workday, and healthcare payroll practices is considered a strong asset.

Le CHEO est à la recherche d’une ou d’un gestionnaire de la paie collaboratif et hautement qualifié pour diriger les opérations de la paie au sein du CHEO, de l’Institut de recherche du CHEO et Roger Neilson, soins palliatifs pour enfants. Il s’agit d’une occasion pour une ou un responsable de la paie expérimenté de s’intégrer dans un environnement de soins de santé complexe et dynamique où la précision, le service, la conformité et le partenariat sont essentiels au quotidien. Sous la responsabilité du chef adjoint des Services financiers, la ou le gestionnaire de la paie assure le leadership stratégique et opérationnel des services de paie à l’appui des employés syndiqués et non syndiqués. La personne retenue dirigera une équipe dédiée à la paie tout en garantissant un traitement précis et ponctuel de la paie, la conformité législative, l’interprétation des conventions collectives, des contrôles internes rigoureux et une prestation de services exceptionnelle. Ce poste est idéal pour une personne qui s’épanouit dans la complexité, aime résoudre des problèmes et apporte à la fois une expertise technique et des compétences en leadership à son travail. Vous jouerez un rôle clé dans le soutien des opérations organisationnelles, le maintien de l’intégrité financière et l’amélioration continue des processus et des systèmes de paie dans un environnement hautement collaboratif.
À titre de gestionnaire de la paie, vous dirigerez et encadrerez l’équipe de la paie en favorisant une culture fondée sur la responsabilisation, la collaboration, la confidentialité, l’amélioration continue et l’excellence du service à la clientèle. Vous agirez à titre de personne-ressource principale pour les questions complexes liées à la paie et soutiendrez les dirigeantes et dirigeants et les employés en ce qui a trait aux problèmes nécessitant une interprétation et des conseils d’experts. Vous veillerez au respect de toutes les lois et exigences de déclaration liées à la paie, y compris les obligations associées à l’Agence du revenu du Canada, au ministère des Finances, à Service Canada, à la Commission de la sécurité professionnelle et de l’assurance contre les accidents du travail et au Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. Le poste comprend également la direction des activités liées à la paie de fin d’exercice, notamment les relevés T4 et les rapprochements connexes, les dépôts en vertu de la loi, le soutien à la vérification, les rapports gouvernementaux et les rapprochements des comptes de paie.
La ou le gestionnaire de la paie joue également un rôle central dans la configuration des systèmes et les initiatives d’amélioration des processus. En étroite collaboration avec vos partenaires des Services aux talents, des Relations de travail, du suivi des heures, des services de l’information et des Finances, vous contribuerez à la mise en œuvre d’améliorations au sein d’UKG et de Workday, tout en veillant à ce que les pratiques de paie restent conformes aux conventions collectives, aux politiques organisationnelles et aux exigences législatives.
Pour réussir dans ce poste, vous devez posséder une solide compréhension de l’administration de la paie dans un environnement syndiqué complexe, un sens aigu du détail, de solides capacités d’analyse et la capacité d’établir des partenariats de confiance à l’échelle de l’organisation. Vous êtes une personne capable de concilier l’excellence opérationnelle avec une approche de leadership réfléchie et axée sur le service.
Ce que vous apportez
Vous êtes une ou un professionnel de la paie chevronné qui compte 5 ans d’expérience et qui allie une expertise technique à une approche axée sur la collaboration et le personnel. Vous détenez un diplôme d’études collégiales en comptabilité, en finances ou dans un domaine connexe, ainsi que l’accréditation active de Professionnel en conformité de la paie (PCP) de l’Institut national de la paie. Vous vous épanouissez dans des environnements complexes, faites preuve d’une grande organisation et savez gérer plusieurs priorités tout en maintenant un niveau élevé de précision et de qualité de service. Vous êtes une ou un gestionnaire de personnel expérimenté ayant fait ses preuves dans la gestion des opérations de paie au sein d’un environnement complexe, idéalement dans le secteur de la santé ou dans un autre grand milieu syndiqué. Vous apportez une connaissance approfondie de la loi en matière de paie, de l’administration des pensions, des remises législatives et de l’interprétation des conventions collectives, ainsi qu’une expérience dans la gestion des systèmes de paie, des vérifications, des rapprochements et des processus de fin d’exercice.
Vous êtes reconnu pour votre intégrité, votre bon jugement et votre capacité à gérer des questions délicates et confidentielles avec professionnalisme. Vous êtes collaboratif, axé sur les solutions et à l’aise pour travailler avec plusieurs équipes et gérer de multiples priorités dans un environnement dynamique. Une expérience avec UKG, Workday et les pratiques de paie dans le secteur de la santé est considérée comme un atout majeur.
